Our slikies haven't started laying yet but I'll bet it won't be too long. They are 6-7 months.
We've had our birds for about 7 months and really enjoy them. We let them out of the run in the late afternoon and enjoy interacting with them. 2 silkie hens, 1 sex-link, 1 polish. 1 columbian wyandotte and 1 partridge rock hen that are a few months from laying. I just wanted to show them off now that they are fixing my breakfasts.
just got back home about a hour ago. Busy day. Went earlier today to Vaquero Feed in Tucson and finally hooked up my Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas. I got 2 pullets (hens) and was soooo tempted to get the rooster. SO PRETTY. But the wifey would kill me. Anywho, I let the kids swim in my mothers' pool for a few hours as payment for dragging them to Tucson. Furry and Fluffy (original names indeed) stayed in the guest bathroom so they could stretch their legs and cool off in my mom's house. Boy can those birds fly. They don't really peck, but they sure were runners and flyers. My mom's house is pretty big and chasing those girls around really gets tiring. lol. When we got back home, the birds were dusted with DE and put in the run to "socialize". The usual birds were doing the peck and pull feather thing but a few swats sent the pack scattering and the amers stayed close to the kids while they adjusted. I want to give a shout out to Kathy who happens to work over there in Vaquero and who supplied the birds from her own stock. She did an excellent job on these birds and I really hope to do more with her. I also would say that Vaquero Feed is in a weird place at the moment. The store is stuck in Tucson's notorious construction and it is a little difficult to reach. But the store is clean, easy to locate merch and the staff (including Kathy) were soo helpful. I was able to get my 1st. 50 pound bag of Manna feed at a ridiculously low price. Outstanding day today.
Quote: There are a number of agencies that provide home care. Insurance typically will pay only for home health: medical help, such as skilled nursing tasks or therapy (physical, occupational, speech). Personal care such as meals, chores, etc. are not usually covered by insurance. Cost for runs from $18-25 per hour. Google "home care" and you should find a number of agencies.
However, most prefer setting a regular schedule, and may not have someone available on short notice, so you might want to start looking for someone who is simply looking for occasional work. Would probably be les expensive, too.
