My Grandmother
S (this side of family has been here sense late 1700's) has told me many stories about her life and t he world she grow up in. They had a chicken her dad kept around for many years. She was a Moma hen who's mission in life was to be a Moma. She stole eggs, take over nests, steel baby chicks, ducklings, goslings, and kittens (if she could). She didn't even have to set on eggs to try to take custody of chicks. Her dad used her as an Living Incubator.

the kittens ended up in joint custody with one of their farm cats. I have no idea what kind it was, what ever was popular in Kansas I guess. Otherwise all the chickens and Roos eventually went into the pot before they got to old. She had to have been a very fierce hen. When she had ducklings and goslings she would go wild when they took to water and swam away. She just couldn't figure it out, her chicks will drawn...... But they didn't.
