Arizona Chickens

Hello there,

I'm relocating to Bullhead City from Orange County (close to beach) and I'm getting concerned about moving my BR from cool to HOT weather! Could anyone send me suggestions/links on the best coop design, etc. or anything else I should be aware of regarding Bullhead. My coop here was made primarily for keeping warm at night and I know that will not definitely not work in Bullhead.

Many thanks

Any suggestions on a vet? Ours is hard to get into day of, unless it is the vet that is rude. We need back up..we want to back
up yesterday.. Not happy..

One more request.. A vet that won't be upset when we refuse canser treatment on a dog is 12 years old.

Ok even better & more specific.. A vet like Dr. Poll.. Chanel 190.. He is the best.. He is like bing, bang, boom.. This is
the issue ..pawdow.. TADA .. He knows what he is doing.. That kind of vet..

My sister is in Tucson. Who is your vet?

Awesome, thanks... Taking down all of the vets that people have suggested..
My momma told me if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything.. It is not that he is a bad vet.. I just don't agree
with his opinion.. That is why I had to appoligise for being rude the other day.. We feed our dog raw meat, he totally disagreed..
We don't do all raw diet.. Along with Victor from Tempe feed & tack analysis of that brand plus the meat.. Our past dogs have
lived till 19 years plus.. We also give our dogs filters water & the 5 gallon jug from sparklets.. Durring the summer when we fill
the dog pool the will drink tap water then. Any..way, I know it is all a matter of opion.. I took the advice from Abbotts German
Shepards. Where we rescued our first G.S.

lkd sorry to hear about your losses.
i WILL be able to attend the processing party after all :weee bringing my mom and husband. how does everyone feel about children? i have 2 but can get a sitter.

If I make it, I'll be bringing my daughter. She's just about 11. She can handle it.

Fabulous, I think that it is good for children to learn stuff like this... What do you think they did in the cowboy days? Glad she
is comming... My boys will go hunting & take care of a deer in the field, but they said no to the chickens.. I think it cause
they have plans with friends that day.. Either way they will still learn at some point..

If I were you I would just add to what you have.. Make it like a screened in run attached to what you already have..
More space for them to run. . We have shade, with fresh cold goodies on really hot days.. Along with misters.. Spoiled
chickens..

I built the Garden Coop for my chickens, with some changes for the heat. http://www.thegardencoop.com/ Longer roof, metal, tilted down to block the sun, not allow more sun in like the original design. Based on advice from Gallo here, I insulated the roof and coop with a product called Reflectix to keep the heat out. Made the coop with a removable 4th side, so that they aren't closed up in the summer (the removable side opens into the enclosed run, so they are still safe from predators. The coop/run is 100% shaded during the day. Everything works fairly well, the coop/run is MUCH cooler inside than outside.

The hot weather SUCKS for chickens, much more so than cold weather. I work all day, and am not able to give them ice and cold treats throughout the day, though my chickens do appreciate such treats on the weekends! Some folks have set up misters which work well to keep the chickens cool. I have 2 shallow pans that I fill up each day with water--the chickens like to hang out in the water and cool off. I haven't had chickens for very long, but so far they've made it through the summer.

HELP!

Checked the girls this a.m. and my Polish seems to be having trouble walking. She's not squatting or bowing but just sitting on the ground and when she moves it seems like she's crawling. She hasn't laid an egg in a few days, nothing unusual, but she seems distressed. The other girls are just fine and my makeshift swamp cooler is keeping the temp in the coop cool enough that they don't pant, although she is now. I examined her but found no wounds, bleeding or anything else, she didn't squawk when I picked her up, like if I touched a sore spot.
Could she be egg bound?
Is there something I can check for?

I'd hate to lose her, she's a beauty. Any ideas?
