Arizona Chickens

Little Miracle is trying to get up, peeping seems stronger. She (positive thinking) is truly a miracle. Next repot AM to morrow. I believe if she makes it thru the night she might make it. Just can't believe it.

Thank you notinoz2007, I just massaged Angles belly, it has gone down a little... Maybe stuff is now moving. I will use a warn water sitz bath tomorrow morning.

Could not sleep, got up to check on Little Miracle, she has flipped over and holding her head up. The last egg to make a crack in its shell has not moved or peeped. Got a feather, warm water. Could get tip of feather in the crack. She is a live but barely. Was worried the same thing was happening to #6. I started to remove shell, got hotter water and kept dipping feather into water to keep the 3rd Membrane hydrated. Took me over a hour, very slow work. Pealing off shell, then slowly removing the white layer, then the wet transparent layer, I discovered an even thinner one remains on the chick. I held her until she wiggled and kicked herself free from it shell. Placed into the incubator the chick. Is not the fighter like Little Miracle. One of 2 things. #6 is very tired after trying to pick an opening, or he will fail to thrive. Anther option, may have bran damage do to lake of air.

I will post pictures of Little Miracle, if she lives through the cent 7 hours.
Some newly hatched chicks are ready to run a marathon, and some want to sleep almost 24/7. As long as they become more active over the first few days, I wouldn't worry.

When assisting with hatching, the rule is that if you see blood, STOP. Wait at least 15 minutes, sometimes longer. This allows the blood some time to clot rather than ripping the vein open.

There is unlikely to have been lack of air; eggshells are porous.

Thank you, that is both reassuring and perplexing. On #6, I was very careful. No blood, the yoke totally absorbed, the cord was a blood drained color I expected for being ready to hatch. It is now very Active.

All the rest were dead. No soundness no movement, 1 must have quite a couple of days ago, the others in the very last days. I got 5 healthy scampering chicks, 1 Little Miracle who doesn't want to be counted out yet. The incubator is very dirty, with the humidity I am sure it is ripe for bacteria and mold. I raised the cover and using that to keep Miracle warm. Out of bleach, will have to use vinegar and UV raise.

Cooked and egg, mixed with warm water yogurt, vitamins, electrolytes, Probiotic, just a few grains each. Put a couple of drops in Miracles mouth. I rather daughter she is ready for nourishment but she needs something. Will repeat every hr, until not needed.

Next time an easier breed, and local eggs.

LKD, I hope Little Miracle pulls through. I have my own at home, though I didn't hatch her out. She came to me as a day old chick with pasty butt and an umbilical cord, both of which the other chicks were picking at. She was weak and sick and I was sure she wasn't going to make it. I took her to work with me and held her all day because I didn't want her to die and have all the other chicks pick on her corpse while I was at work. She made it, and she's a big, bossy barred rock!

My RIR rooster is getting HUGE! 17 weeks and still peeps like a chick. Probably knows that he's going down once he crows! Still waiting on an egg from my EE, who is super red in the face and has been squatting for me. She's 21 weeks now. The nest boxes all have golf balls in them, though I've never seen one of the chickens venture into the next boxes. They only use the coop for sleeping. I guess they'll learn when they're ready.

Im sorry to hear about your unhatched chicks. FOr future reference you may want to crack them open and see where they stop developing or if they just didnt manage to pip.
kicking myself for not posting this earlier for you! Here is a wonderful guide by Sally Sunshine! https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101

How are the remaining chicks?

Oh red rocket.. I think I might try & make some saddles..
Have you ordered yet?
No, I have not. :0 Still collecting orders. PM me the sizes and colors youd want.

Does anyone have a food link to egg color, production on the different breeds ? I use Meyer for that, but good
as opposed to excellent ?? 2-5 a week or 1-3 a week.. I do know that EE are great layers.. But I have heard that
Silkies are not good, fair? Again I do think it depends on the bird? Just a newbie.. I have so many neighbors & friends
that would like eggs, we are barly keeping up with demand.. So I am rehoming some/ adding.. Ya know..
So a chart will help ..anyone??

They were perfectly grouped several times, by the time I snapped they were piled again. Total togetherness.

GESS WHAT I HAVE MARANS FOR SALE..... STRAIGHT RUN...... I am keeping Angle, Dakota, and one other, undecided, and of course Sylvia. I did not include Little Miracle, I am waiting.

Yes, that's what I was asking. Whatever web site I read that information on (I have no clue which) claimed that chicks hatched in the fall would lay smaller and less eggs. Their explanation for this was the lack of light.
