Arizona Chickens

DEMOSTHINE, I was here, at that time I had no A/C, just fans. It was hatter then  . My Danes and I spent a lot of time in the shower or tub. If or when that happens again I hope I will be ready, we are sure to have brown outs, or worse a power frailer. I have no plan in place for the girls other then mister if there is a power outage. We will survive. We are such silly people, we move into a hot desert and build the same homes we are used to from Europe. We need home that are desert designed. In Queen Creek there are several homes designed to not require A/C. They are adobe thick walls, with earth air circulation. When I heard about them I had to drive down there to see them being constructed. That was in the early '90's.

How is it going now that a few days have passed? Recovery after the accident? Any word on you vehicle? Any damage to the frame? :hugs

Last week we finally definitively knew we needed to do something about our son's beautiful Ameraucana roo. It no longer only made a little crow in the morning, but decided it found its voice all day long. We originally were donating him to the processing party, but I wasn't able to drop him of with the taker. My husband joked that he was going to stop down the road at house that has a ton of chickens and ask them if they wanted him. (The house is on unincorporated land, unlike ours even though it is only a half mile a way). I told him "no one is going to take a rooster!" He stopped with the kids anyhow and after asking a few questions, the guy said "sure bring him by!" So Chipmunk is now at a house with some of the coolest and varied breeds of chickens I have ever seen in real life. We also lost my Buff Orp a couple weeks ago to a hawk we now believe. So since we were down two chickens and the yard seemed too quiet and lonely without them... I made a trip to Pratts and came home with 4 :two Bantams, a Silver Wyandotte, and a leghorn (because we figured we get every other colored egg except for white) I forgot how noisy the little buggers are in the brooder though! They are day olds too, it has been a little while I forgot how tiny and cute they are. At least I didn't come home with a duckling or turkey like the kids wanted.

Maybe your buff is hiding with some eggs??
Keep us posted with the babies.. Especially if any are Roos...

Hey all! Things are going well. Word is getting out, around the neighbors, that we have chickens and people are coming over to see them and buy eggs. One lady told me that someone just around the corner has chickens also. I'll have to check it out and introduce myself.

A few days ago, a large red tail took a low fly by over the yard. The girls saw it before I did. It was comical to see them all scatter for the bushes and the porch. When they came out of hiding, they were quite vocal about what just happened.

Sweet meeting other chicken folk.. So glad to hear from you...:)
Your girls are smart... Kent our rooster is always making his alert noise.. They all just stop & wait for instruction. They really are better
than T.V.
I have not started on brewing yet... I keep thinking about it.. However, I did contact Four peeks Brewery just around the corner. We as a
community asked for some of their left over hops & barley for our chickens.. Hope to hear back with a YES...
What are you brewing this weekend?

Don't feed them hops. Not sure about chickens, but hops are dangerous to other pets.

I feed my spent grain to the chickens every time. They love it!

I was sure you could feed hops to chickens - in fact its good for them I thought - I'd look it up first. Have a great time brewing - whenever you start!!

Either weekend day. Tell me when you can come down and I'll plan a brew day.
If you make it a sunday, I prefer early. It's a 5-6 hour process for the advanced brewing I do. Saturday could be anytime.

After reading the info, I won't chance it. My hops go over the wall into the alley or get washed down the driveway to dry up and blow away.
