Arizona Chickens

I'm curious if any other AZ chicken parents have seen a decrease in egg production since the weather changed a couple weeks ago? One of my EE girls hasn't laid but ONE egg in the last week while the other has been every OTHER day instead of daily like before. My Buttercup started laying today so I'm confused. The EEs were born in April so I don't think they are old enough to be molting...
Thoughts?

I have 8 hens and I was only getting maybe 1 egg every 3 days or so. I started adding cayenne pepper to their laying pellets with a small bit of water on the pellets to hold the cayenne pepper, and at the moment I'm getting at least 4 eggs a day. The ones with the bright red combs are the ones laying, so I'm keeping my eye out for any other hens change in their comb color.

Think fresh pasta, with left over turkey (any meat and even sea foods) with a light white sauce that has had Provolone and Mozzarella slowly infused, giving the sauce a little more thickness and deeper richness, grate a little fresh Parmesan cheese on top, salt & fresh cracked pepper on top..... Garnish with small sweet tomato's on the side.

You can add Tabasco or sprinkle chipotle pepper, as you like it, take it in a different direction. Turn it is to a pepper sauce, crush Grains of Paradise, the smokey Long Pepper, and fresh black, green, and red pepper to gathers mix into your sauce and let it mingle to gather, for the permeate into the creamy goodness. So simple so good.

Reading your post made me remember the first time I saw fresh pasta hanging in my friend's house. Her parents were from Italy. I thought it was amazing. They invited me for dinner and it was delicious. They also gave me a half juice glass of wine with dinner and I told them I wasn't allowed. I think I was about 13 y.o. What a fun memory. I think you are missing your calling. The food network is missing a star LKD.

Speaking of Thanksgiving left overs. I started decorating for Christmas today and still have 3 pumpkins left from Fall decorations. I chopped one in half and stuck it in the yard. The girls checked it out for a while. Within a few hours, the inside was picked clean!!! Does anyone know if the girls can overdose on this stuff? I still have two more pumpkins left.

Sad day here in our home,

We have an appointment at the vets for our 20 year old dog. Foxy..
This is the boys 2nd time going to the vet.. Our other dog was around
20 as well. They were little then.. Boy did we miss her.. Still do.. It is hard
finding a amazing dog.. One that can go camping, not eat the cats,chickens
Or attack other dogs.. Both of them we great.. Well actually foxy would
of loved to eat a chicken.. But not Coco... Our new German shepard wants to
eat chickens & cats..

You're in my thoughts....I feel for you. 20 years is a great life you provided....Hope Foxy gave a good talk to Coco about the cats & chickens....bet so. It is so hard to let go....it's all part of having pets and animals. As hard as it may be to let go their memories will last lifetimes! Knowing you gave a good life to rescues and otherwise, is rewarding. 20 years is miraculous, IMO.

My new chicks (mutts) are very calm and I am looking forward to seeing them grow.

One is larger than the other and has assumed the role of nurturer ? I wonder ? Is she a he ? (due to the size difference ?)


Fermented grower feed and fresh greens. They are very calm and sweet, I love them !

I got up a little late this morning (about 8) to let my girls out of their roost and feed them breakfast. It has been FREEZING here!! Well, freezing for us. I did end up losing my spaghetti squash, cucumbers and about half my tomato plants last week to frost. The wind has been blowing and our days are barely over 50 the last few days.
When I pulled open the slider, 4 little chickens came running from around the corner to greet me!!! WHAT?? How in the heck did they get out? I close them in the roost portion of the coop each night. Did I forget to close the door? So how did the door to the coop get open? Maybe I didn't latch it and it blew open?
They followed me diligently to the coop and when we got there, I saw that I had left the nesting boxes open from the top. I cleaned the roost area last night and had the box open and must have forgotten to close it. Poor little things had that lid open all night. But resourceful as they obviously are, they figured out how to get to the top of the open box and fly the couple of feet down to freedom! Who knows how long those little hoodlums were out cruising around before I came with breakfast!

CityFarm, sorry to hear about your dog. 20 years indeed is a very long life and we as humans have to make the decision when their time has come. It is never easy.
Flower your mutts are so cute!
LKD, fresh pasta has no equal! I am a chef by trade and I remember the first time I ever made it, and told myself, boy am I in trouble now. So delicious!

When i went outside to check up on things i found two hens roosting outside on top of the six foot fencing. Don't they know they are more vulnerable outside the coop ? I carried one inside, the other can figure out where she want to be. Tomorrow she may be placed inside a crate, "That'll learn her. " Dang dummy !
