Arizona Chickens

Ugh. Chickens are a costly hobby. I was taking pictures of mama chicken and her meatie babies when my little dog walked by. She (mama) screeched like a banshee and attacked my dog. He seemed fine but the next day his face was swollen. It got worse and worse and took him to the vet today. The infection had to be drained and he may have necrosied skin which will require $$$. My poor dog and my poor bank account.

Awhee.... :barnie

:gig I'm just as twisted. The problem lays in the fact I know/met a couple pig farmers. A Marsades SUV pulling a trailer with hogs sound a sleep in the back. He had a tailored suit and leather full length coat and his wife had a lovely mink. They had been out on the town after showing their pigs at some kind og pig thing. The pigs were still spotless. They were tired after the big day, apparently collapse in the deep straw and snuggled next to each other to keep warm. The other pig farmer I actually know, he was collage educated, and when ever I ran into him he was well dresses.

There is money in them dare pigs. I would not hisitate to marry a man I love if he was a pig farmer. I would be over joyed to fall for a man with money.

I now have 5 peeps and a 6th trying to get out. I moved her to a private pen so she will not have to fight off the big girls the first week. I put a farm barn heater in it. It has plastic sheeting on all sides and top. Trying to keep drafts away. I hope I made the opening big enough fore her to get thru. She is so fluffed up she looks hug. I thought a night move would be best. A couple of the girls showed to much interest and was trying to pick at what was under her. She protected the peeps now, but when they start running around it will not be so easy.

One is a charcoal black and very tiny, I think must be a bantam. It is all I can do to keep from handling them. I do not want to stress Moma any more then she is.

Hope you have better luck on moving them.. When I tried to moving our Moma & eggs/ babies she quit sitting on the eggs.. That was a bad idea for me
anyway... Plus they never move from out of the Moma for a few days.. I ended up putting the rest in the incubator till they hatched.. Then put them
under her at night.. I bet the black one could be a black copper Maran or flowers E.E. mix.. ? Do you plan on keeping them?

It was very tempting, but I wore what I had out, my my green plaid Saree with the red pallo, and a red blouse. It is a sico blend and one of my favorites. When I got there I ended up cleaning/picking up the court yard after his dog. And then helping him finish cleaning. It is not easy to do in that Saree. They are warren about 1/2" above the ground and it was a full 6 Meters. If I was going to clean I would have warren a simple cotton print, warren above the foot or a little higher. It is a lower cast Saree, or a house dress to us.

When I was living in San Diego, I ware my green simple cotton Saree to the Farmers Market. I was on my way home carrying my bag of Veggys. When a big SUV pulled over and stopped. And a arm came out with money. It was an elaborate dressed in one of the high cast. She was waring all the finery you picture from the movies, her hands were painted with henna. Her driver was less well dressed and only a little good. She said "please, for your dog". I had to take the money. In India begging is against the law, and giving to the poor is a matter of duty and good karma. To save my face, she directed the money to my dog because I refused it at first. Also they were not going to leave until I accepted the gift, and cars were being stopped behind her. She has been in my prays ever sense, what else can I do? I did learn my lesson, in America there are people from all over the world, ware a good Saree in public only.

I bet you looked beautiful. I think Sarees are beautiful regardless of the caste. I find them a very elegant form of dress.

CITY FARMER, I had great luck moving them on the 24that night. My first attempt failed. I was afraid the eggs chilled. One egg got broken when I checked in the morning after I put her back. When I moved her the second time she had hatched chicks, it was late at night, one eggs was zipping. You gave me 12 eggs, 1 broke, leaving 11, 6 eggs hatched and I removed 7 unhatched eggs. Do the math, 12-1=11, 6+7= 13, Very interesting. I think that some one got into her nest when she left to poop, eat, drink and get back. If you missed it, I am now posting or uploading videos on YouTub.
Here is a link Bhttp://youtu.be/mx_6x42Orbw The ones I down loaded were for privet viewing. The ones I post from now on I hope will be better. I am just learning and fingering out how to do it.

Celebration night turned tragic. I went outside to collect any late eggs before we had my son's birthday cake only to see two dogs running out of our garden. The garden has a fence around it and then the run and coop are inside of that! The 2 dogs had torn the hardware wire off the side of the run and gotten in. They killed our Turkey and a banty. One of the Americanas was limping and the rest were missing clumps of feathers and in shock. The Old English Game banty roo no longer had his long beautiful tail feathers. The worst part was that the banty was my daughters special chick. The turkey was my son's and today was my son's 12th birthday! The sweet turkey had gotten his Thanksgiving pardon since he was still on the too young side, only to be killed like that and the banty was a beautiful solid black with a black beak and comb... I hope we don't lose anymore tonight from shock, the fencing is fixed and the survivors are locked in the coop to get settled. We had just been looking to get more turkeys because this one had been so much fun to raise! The kids are heartbroken.

I'm sorry for your losses. It's very hard to lose animals like that, doubly so when you have children.

Do you know who the dogs belong to? Hopefully there is some way to prevent them from wreaking further havoc.

Sorry to hear about your loss. It is bad enou to lose them to wild predators, but to lose them because people won't or can't control their dogs is just wrong. I am really sorry for your son, especially on his birthday. My son is 13 and claimed our ameraucana as "his chicken". He would be devastated also. Wish there was something I could do to help. Will say a prayer for your kiddos and your flock.
