I see that you have already made some adjustments. I had a terrible rooster once and needed to place him in a a separate dog crate for the protection of all. After several days of isolation and pinning him down and pulling out some of his tail feathers he became more docile but I can not say if the change was final because I did not keep him.

Quote: </p That is a funny story about the beet tops. I was telling a woman at the local store that same thing when she asked why I was critical of the wilted greens. They do taste good to me also but I like mustard greens the BEST.

Sorry for all the post but as I have given up my internet at home I do not post often or not at all BUT since the people here are so full of fun and ideas I could not but say something !

Thanks! As a gardener, I don't think I could ever forget your story.

It must have been devastating. I saw your lettuce plants and I thought they looked pretty darn good! And I'm sure the spaghetti squash were great too. Are you eating the beet tops? I grew up my whole life eating beets and it was just a few years ago that I learned that the tops were edible. Really strange given the crazy stuff my family ate growing up. Anyway, they are the best "greens" I've ever had. We really need to get you some Punta Banda and Nichols tomato seeds. The PBs are from Baja and the Nichols are a very old Tucson Heirloom. Both do exceedingly well in our climate and tolerate the cold surprisingly well.

I am proud of my little patch of lettuce! I grew up eating a ton of beets as well, but we never ate the greens. I can't remember how I discovered they were edible, but it was when my kids were early teens and they are 32 and 35 now. We eat lots of them and they are one of my favorites. I sauté or steam them when I have an abundance then freeze in serving size piles and vacuum seal them. So great when you can't get them fresh.

One day of beet green harvest this past spring.

Sauteeing!! mmmmmm...

I would love to get my hands on those tomato seeds.

Let's start this off with I'm still a noob - obviously.

The obvious part is when I tell you who I thought was who and who I realize is really whom.

I thought this was one of the Buff Orp pullets (sorry for the nictating membrane but he blinked) His comb was red from week 2

the two on the top withthe blond combs were supposed to be RIR's, I'm guessing Buff Orp pullets now.

This guy (Gal now...) was supposed to be a buff orp roo (remember they came marked from ideal) I'm now guessing RIR pullet.

Just for S & G purposes...

Here is a shot of the silver and gold laced wyandottes. (I'm pretty sure I know which is which.)

And the Americunas (2 on left) and the Salmon Favroles (3 on the right) They are still too light to operate the treadle feeder so the brick keeps it open.

Please correct any more misconceptions I may have & thanks for the help!

In my opinion you have everyone correctly labeled now!

Don't those look healthy!

Gallo I'd like the seed box, too! Oh, and your garden...holy crap! If I ever get down to Tuscon, can I have a tour?

Oh MY I am SO IMPRESSED ! I MUST visit some day

It really isn't that great. Good for Tucson, but not that great. Now you've seen most of it anyway, but anyone that wants to come see it is welcome. I do like to talk about gardening. Arizonachicken, you're on the seed box list.

Awesome idea.. One of my dearest friends & neighbors have purchased over 300 seed packets last year.. I am willing to share if the box comes this way..
Does it stay down that way? I just went threw 2009 flower seeds.. I planted them in the pots that we have designated for seasonal color.. & of course
the pots are In the back where our flock gets to free range.. I will have cover them before I let the little stinkers loose.. We had 20+ friends & neighbors
over for a gourmet prim rib dinner this weekend. So they have been in their run for about 4 days.. Our dogs will eat their poo, but we did not want to take
a chance of someone stepping in poo & tracking in the house..now with all that said hoping for a good germination

City, as soon as we find someone heading up your direction or from there to here, we'll send the box your way. It's a bit of a slow method of transport, but it made it's way around the state in just over a year that way! I go up to the Phoenix area just about every other month, so we could work something out eventually.
