Arizona Chickens

I don't vaccinate for anything. For me, it's all in the good, natural husbandry to let them survive on their own. For us, they are a source of food, so we don't consider them pets. We are bound to lose some along the way, and although we try to minimize it, we don't keep the ill around. Natural selection will give a much stronger, more vibrant flock that will drastically improve the enjoyment of your animals. The weak and sick are culled, so the strong may survive better.

Hey all! I'm about 1.5 weeks behind in posts, and I'll never catch up! Hope everyone is having a nice start to the new year. Chicken-wise, all 6 layers are doing well, and the meatie chicks are 3 weeks old and doing great. Mama hen is still doing her job. So awesome. So, her sister just went broody! haha, I read that the breed(s) (they are polish/silkie) had a tendency towards broodiness, but reading about it and experiencing it are quite different!

Anyone in Tucson have fertile eggs available?

This gal of mine is now 7 months old and still hasn't laid an egg. Should I be worried?

Hello everyone!

I have been a long time lurker and wanted to say hi. A little history, I grew up raising chickens in Washington state and moved to Arizona about 8 years ago. I grew up mostly taking care of road island reds, ameraucanas and a few other hybrids. Since living in Arizona, I have always wanted to get chickens again and recently moved out to Litchfield Park and built my first coop.

I am about to get 10 pullets later this month so expect to see some pictures on here! My wife has never had chickens so this will be an exciting experience for her. It sure is nice to have an Arizona specific thread so I know what to be aware of in terms of predators and other challenges! I look forward to getting to know everyone here.

My EE looks just like yours. I got mine from Pratts in Glendale labelled as Americauna. Mine is 15 months old and I have only ever gotten 6 eggs total from her. She was a late bloomer even at that. Luckily she has a funny personality. We just keep her with our girls (different breeds laying great) for giggles.

Hoping you have better production with yours.
