Thank you. I have honestly never read the NN thread because mine are a cross with Ameraucana. I know that mine are my favorite birds that I own. They are so friendly and fun. I do not know it that is normal for everyone or just the cross I have.

The people on the NN thread love to cross breed their NN to see what new varieties we can come up with. There are a few characters on that thread that know a great deal about genetics and using the NN is fun because it is a dominate gene i.e. if you do not see it that gene has not been passed on. Another thing to remember is that genes come in pairs and in order to be consider pure for a particular gene both parents need to carry two copies of each. hat is the only way a bird will breed true. That is the offsprings will look like the parents look.

Anyway I love NNs and hope to some day have every chicken in my flock be a mix of NN.

Do you know if anyone has tried mixing them with EE or Ameraucanas? I have both hens and roosters mixed NN with Ameraucanas and I am hoping for colored eggs. This breed is so fun.

I had never seen or tasted pineapple guava before a visit to the Tucson Botanical Gardens last fall.  I was immediately smitten.   According to what I've read and what people have told me, they only really like partial sun (e.g. morning or filtered sun).   The ones at the Botanical Garden are in mostly shade and are doing very well.   I've planted two in different locations where they get very little sun after noon.  They seem to be doing well.  I got a larger Nazemetz  from Mesquite Valley Growers, which was fairly spendy and one of the smaller and cheaper Coolidge from HD.  I think that gallon potted tree was $17.  

I think you just solved the problem of what to put in a shady area in front of my brick fence. The oleander grows well there, but they could grow in a vat of hydrochloric acid! I am definitely hitting up the stores tomorrow.

Hey guys, how long does a hen have to be broody before I could put a couple of chicks under her? I don't have time for her to hatch eggs but I could give her a couple of babies to raise. She's awfully committed the wooden eggs she's sitting on. Been five days now.

I don't know, I've done it around the time other eggs underneath the broody hatched. Hopefully someone else has some experience with it.

I was "attacked" by one of those blind snakes years ago. Alright, maybe attacked is a bit strong of a word related to a tiny 4" snake, but we startled each other and the snake came out the winner than night.

They're so vicious too! With those tiny vestigial eyes and mouth made for savaging ants and termites, you're lucky to have come out unscathed.

we had to dig out what was planted in our yard when we bought it. Then we burned the roots. Oleander is nasty stuff

I once killed an oleander with lye. There was a huge ant nest at the base and I poured powdered lye into the hole and followed with about 1/2 cup of water. No more ants! About a week later, no oleander either!

Thx for the welcome, mostly I'm just a lurker. Be careful burning oleander, the smoke is very poisonous and has been known to cause death. Horses are smart enough not to touch oleander, but I'm not sure about chickens.

ummmm....forgot to mention there was a palo verde fatality associated with the lye incident. didn't even notice 'til I brushed against a limb and it broke off, dead and dry.
