Agh, so sweet of you..someday for sure.. I think we will ave to take 4 days & make the rounds down that way..drove to Eloy to look at a car for our son.. They guy said it was only 40 minutes from Tucson..

It takes me about 40-45 minutes to get to Picacho Peak from my house and Eloy is a little bit farther yet and I am on the north side of Tucson, closer to Marana, really. "Tucson" is so sprawling, depending on where you are heading in this area, 40 minutes is the least it would take you.

My NN are my sweetest. I am a HUGE NN ;lover now. so sweet and easy going.




ok so does anyone want pet rabbits? they are not meat breed rabbits. they are lion heads both males. someone in Phx has them and needs a home for them. I am glad to take them but I am not coming to Phx for a bit. or does anyone want to foster them until I can get them?? She is giving them away, they have a cage but she is pregnant and cannot handle them plus her other animals. Let me know.

On a positive note, we finally finished prepping the last of the grapes for raisins. They are so good!

Alright, but you probably should sit down first. At O.K. Feeds I pay about $38 for a 50 lb. bag. I think the feed from Big Sky is cheaper, but I believe it's mash and not pelletized. I think the fermenters like it for that.

Love the Big Sky co-op feeds, yes they are a mash and easier to ferment, and the price is a plus.

Feed stores better in a climate controlled building when it is hot, which is most of the time here! Where I keep mine, there is an evaporative cooler plus it is completely rodent-proof. Very important!

I would love to see your feed storage set up!

I have always wanted a Delaware. If you ever have to rehome her, please keep me on your list..
& yes for the BO.. They are so sweet.. We have one baby with the chiks from AZKAT.. The 2 chicks that looked like PBR are SLW..

when we first got them the legs did not look like the SLW.. I hope thy are sweet!!

My sister loves her Delawares since they are great winter layers here when her other hens are moulting or resting during the shorter days.

My girls have started laying! Exciting! I found the first one by chance while cleaning the coop. It seems a little early in terms of their age, not to mention that it is so hot out. I'm not 100% sure which one of the three are laying yet but I'll figure it out soon. Here are the past three days eggs compared to a store bought egg.

It jumped my in-laws, neighbors fence to get to the pool for a cool drink and I caught a couple pics. I love wildlife.

Yeah, I kinda saw it coming when I first posted the plans on BYC. I've managed to stop a few people from selling the plans online, but this different. And I even remember trying to imagine at the time how I would feel if someone took the plans and used them to mass produce something but in the end I didn't think it would happen. It looks like the manufacturer is selling them all over the place, not just Pet Club. According to Nifty, anything we post here on BYC is copyrighted, so I'm not sure what kind of recourse I would have. It just stinks that you want to do something to help people with a specific problem and along comes someone who would take advantage of that.

I'm pretty sure these are the ones that Tempe Feed is selling for under $60. So sorry this happened.

Okay, I'm back from vacation! Yahoo, my chickens survived. Even my garden did okay, though the bed of squash didn't make it. Replanted on Sunday, should be golden in a few weeks.

My EE is broody...I'm not sure when that started. I didn't think EE's were prone to broodiness, but didn't someone else here recently have an EE go broody as well? I'm not sure what to do with her, I guess I should break her but I don't really have a broody breaker space, lol. Obviously too hot to give her meatie chicks. What about coturnix quail chicks? They do better in heat. Could she raise a different species for a couple of weeks?

Well, I'm off to do a new google search on chickens raising quail...and searching for cortunix quail chicks locally.

Even with tiny bantam chickens it's hard to get chicken hens to successfully raise quail chicks. They are just too small.

This brings back memories! Every year I would go with my mom to pick grapes and we would sun dry them for our year's supply of raisins. Yum!

Oh, those grapes look soooo good. Raisins, though?

lol. My grapes were another loser due to my vacation. I guess the caretakers let them get too dried out and all my grapes withered. So disappointed since it was the first year my vine produced anything. There's always next year....

Haha, Cityfarm, wow, your broody and my broody look too similar! I've only let a broody hen raise chicks twice, and the first one was eaten by a coyote when the chicks were about 6 weeks old. The second broody (1st broody's sister) raised the chicks till they were about 3 months old. She had no interest in leaving them. These were both Polish/silkie crosses. I think I've read that most hen moms leave their brood much earlier.

I'd have to say the silkie/Polish is my sweetest chicken. But she only turned sweet after raising chicks and then getting bullied after trying to re-integrate into the flock (still an issue). After that, it'd be the EE. The barred rocks and BCM don't register on the sweet list.

Well, that thread was slightly depressing. I don't think I could watch that many chicks die without stepping in and doing something.

Hey everyone! Here I am again, looking for chickens! Over the summer, I lost 3 hens. I'm looking to build my flock up again. If anyone within a half hour away from Apache Junction with under two year old hens they want to sell/give away, I am interested! Please PM me.
