Arizona Chickens

You know what, I'll bet those were escargot!  Helix aspersa (brown garden snail) were brought over during the gold rush and spread everywhere.  They are here in Tucson, Mesquite Valley Growers is crawling with them.  I'd guess Phoenix has them too.  If I had a bunch, I'd eat them, they were dang good when I used to get them in New Orleans.  Wonder why they never caught on here?   I'm reminded of how delicious crawfish are in the deep south and everyone gets excited when crawfish season comes along, but most of us in growing up in MI would have never imagined eating them.  Again, dang good stuff.  I'll bet it was hilarious watching the ducks tear into those snails!

It's raining cats and dogs out there!  :celebrate

Crayfish is one of my favorite, thinking of them makes my mouth watering. I like to eat at papadoux but they are so far from where I live.

Gallo, it has not caught on becase of that SNAIL JUICE.. Agh, eeeebbbee jeeebeeess.. Just thinking about it.. Never had them, however love octopus, which I would guess has the same texture.
I have not seen them in Tempe. If I do I will go harvest for our flock.. Now crawfish another story..

Sill--you mentioned getting a terrier to keep the rodents down. I think that is part of the problem. My 14-year old hound passed away about 6 weeks ago. Coincidentally, rodent pop has increased. The remaining 2 dogs, lab and dasch-mix are no help. The little dash is too beaten down with valley fever to be the rodent hunter he could be. And the lab doesn't care about anything unless it involves a ball or stick to chase.

So...at one point I might have tried snails, but the little nursery owner guy's story about making the snails involved slime. Lots and lots of slime. Wait, no, that wasn't him. The slime story came from the woman who wrote 1/4 Acre Farm. She raised snails for a big escargot party, and there was too much slime in the prep.

we had a bunch of Rat Terriers in Louisiana and we never had a rodent problem. I love Cairn's. Have you seen the movie "Best in Show"?

No.. Yeah our little girl is so awesome. A neighbor called and used her one afternoon.. I guess the rat got in and she could not catch it.. Her cats would play with it, but she could not go to bed thinking of it lose in her home.. oh boy did she have a great day over there chasing a rodent, getting a treat & some good old love'n..
