Arizona Chickens

That's awesome!

I bought some bald cypress seeds to try (they are just so mysterious looking), but I haven't tried to sprout them yet. All of the trees we've planted on our property have been taken out of the creek and were saplings (cottonwoods and ash) or purchased at a nursery (fruit or nut trees).

I love the idea of growing things from seed, so this is a whole new area to explore!
While at a rest stop driving across the state to Southern Cal, I picked up some seeds from a local willow type tree and planted them in an area that get watered. Sure enough I was happy to see that four or five sprouted and grew. I ended up giving them to a neighbor who had lots more yard space than I did at the time. It is fun to grow anything from seeds. I find that if I can get seeds to sprout up here in the northern part of the state then do so much better and seedlings. Planting and growing remains a challenge for me. The higher elevation causes the sun to burn plants. But I keep trying.

Does anyone have baby chicks?? Our broody's date is fast approching..
Two of the easter egger hens from your flock are sitting now in the same box. grrrr I miss their little green eggs. But I get tired of fighting with them to put them into a wire crate. They are not friendly at this point. Too much hens at my house.

LKD is having a GREAT adventure on the road. I call her now and then since she has connection issues and her YTUBE link does not work. Here is one of the birds that she hatched for me from my eggs. First I thought that it is Male and now I am not so sure. Its hatch mate a replica of her rooster "Angel" except with a ROSE comb which I like is acting quite manly but the hens can not be bothered with him since he is without fineness.

What do you think ?

That is really cool!

We have so many willow trees growing in our creek, they take over parts of it (until a flood comes and takes them away).

I love to grow things from seed, they DO seem to do much better than the plants that I get at the nursery. My Brandywine tomatoes that I grew from seed this year are much nicer looking and hardier than the couple of tomato plants that I got from the nursery.

I have pulled out seedings from Cottonwoods and replanted them and they did well. They were also given to the neighbors with a few acres that needs more shade trees. Cottonwoods are not a favorite of mine and so I did not keep them. Here in N AZ I am growing one each of Mullberry, Eastern Red Cedar, AZ Juniper another type of Juniper, one Willow with fragrant yellow flowers. I found a seeding of another Willow with decorative pink flowers and will try to replant it another spot. Also Elm trees are weeds around here and I have two huge one in the front yard. The produce zillions of seeds each spring and are everywhere. But shade is important so people leave them in place.

Where is the seed exchange BUCKET these days ? Anyone having a pool party in The Valley ?

We planted two Mulberry trees too, the fruit is a favorite of mine and I hear that chickens love them!

We wanted the Cottonwoods for shade in the front yard, and they grow pretty fast. Shade is very important around here. Lol!

We also have tons of naturally growing Juniper, Ash, Hackberry, Cedar, Mesquite, Sycamore and others that I'm not very familiar with.

Where are you from that you say crayfish?

Did you say that Frank? Did you get that dog house or the playhouse?

Yes I said that don't know where I picked it up though. They were called many different names. I didn't get the playhouse the guy didn't respond to my email.
