Beautiful. Wish I could have roosters.
While at a rest stop driving across the state to Southern Cal, I picked up some seeds from a local willow type tree and planted them in an area that get watered. Sure enough I was happy to see that four or five sprouted and grew. I ended up giving them to a neighbor who had lots more yard space than I did at the time. It is fun to grow anything from seeds. I find that if I can get seeds to sprout up here in the northern part of the state then do so much better and seedlings. Planting and growing remains a challenge for me. The higher elevation causes the sun to burn plants. But I keep trying. That's awesome!
I bought some bald cypress seeds to try (they are just so mysterious looking), but I haven't tried to sprout them yet. All of the trees we've planted on our property have been taken out of the creek and were saplings (cottonwoods and ash) or purchased at a nursery (fruit or nut trees).
I love the idea of growing things from seed, so this is a whole new area to explore!
Two of the easter egger hens from your flock are sitting now in the same box. grrrr I miss their little green eggs. But I get tired of fighting with them to put them into a wire crate. They are not friendly at this point. Too much hens at my house.Does anyone have baby chicks?? Our broody's date is fast approching..

I have pulled out seedings from Cottonwoods and replanted them and they did well. They were also given to the neighbors with a few acres that needs more shade trees. Cottonwoods are not a favorite of mine and so I did not keep them. Here in N AZ I am growing one each of Mullberry, Eastern Red Cedar, AZ Juniper another type of Juniper, one Willow with fragrant yellow flowers. I found a seeding of another Willow with decorative pink flowers and will try to replant it another spot. Also Elm trees are weeds around here and I have two huge one in the front yard. The produce zillions of seeds each spring and are everywhere. But shade is important so people leave them in place. That is really cool!
We have so many willow trees growing in our creek, they take over parts of it (until a flood comes and takes them away).![]()
I love to grow things from seed, they DO seem to do much better than the plants that I get at the nursery. My Brandywine tomatoes that I grew from seed this year are much nicer looking and hardier than the couple of tomato plants that I got from the nursery.
