My brother breed his own. I've tried it but wasn't happy with the results. Only did one batch. I'll be trying again someday. How long have y'all been brewing?

Just getting all the supplies together.. Between a neighbor, that does not brew anymore & a few other things we hope to start in the late summer/early fall.. That is why we started a separate thread.. I just love that nothing will go to waist..

Good morning everyone. I hope nobody has damage from the group here. Looking at all the uprooted trees on the news. We didn't get the bad stuff. Just a little wind and a little rain west of Downtown Phoenix.

The good news is that we didn't lose any trees or chickens!  We woke up at about 10:30 and it sounded like we were in a war zone and had just been bombed!  The whole house shook.   We think that the lightening got a little too close, and our electricity is all jacked up this morning.  So far, we know that at least 3 GFIs fried, taking out my computer's battery back-up, half the outlets in the kitchen (had to carry the coffee maker around the kitchen until I found a wall where the outlets still worked), and the outlets in the guest apartment (including a freezer full of meat which had to be relocated to the other freezers).  Of course, my DH (an industrial electrician) had to be at work in Phoenix at 5:00 AM, so that left me to try to isolate all the problem areas so he can fix it all when he gets home!!  We are thankful that it wasn't any worse and there was no permanent damage, just a little inconvenience!

Oh boy, how blessed can you be to have a industrial electrician... :yesss: when something like this happen..

We have a volunteer mulberry, never harvested for seeds.. Although we eat the fruits.. It decided to pick a spot up against our wall. It will have to go soon.. If it produces fruit I will save you some..

I would greatly appreciate some. I am so excited to get new plants and design the new property. we found one we like. My husband is putting in for hos VA Loan so God willing we have found a house. All four of us love it so that is saying A LOT!! first one the boys , hubby and I all agree on.

Next time you come this way, or we there, I will save you stuff.. We are always getting free plants..
The tree will bloom next spring.. If not I will get some from a neighbor..

Almost lost one this weekend.

Yesterday around 11am I went to check my capon coop and found one of my black ameraucana roos was "dead".  His laid on side motionless, eyes closed and not respond when I use a stick to poke him.   So I took him out ready to discard the body when I found that he is still soft and warm and his eyes half opened.  I didn't find any wound or bite marks, the only reason for his condition that I may thought of was that his brothers may have piled on him and suffocated him?  By the way, they are about 3 months old.

I took him inside, set him in a box and used a turkey baster to drip some salt water into his mouth.  After some 30 minutes to an hours he seems to gain some strength now eyes are open still couldn't get up.  I can here him "cough" like trying to get something out of his throat, I felt his crop it is empty and weirdly mushy however I couldn't massage anything out of his mouth while hold him upside down.   I gave him more water just let him rest.

By night around 6pm his seems better I took him out set him on the lawn, he could walk!  but he limps, especially the left leg, may it went to sleep for too long when he was in coma?  He walked a bit and they sit down to take a rest, he drank some water I set aside.

I took him in by 8pm and let him spend the night inside in the box.  This morning at 6am seems he is fully recovered!  I put him back to the pen he walks, eats, drinks normal!

Excited that he recovered still not sure what happened to him.

Crazy boy.. Glad he is ok.. Where did you take the photo of those eggs?? What store?

We planted two Mulberry trees too, the fruit is a favorite of mine and I hear that chickens love them!

We wanted the Cottonwoods for shade in the front yard, and they grow pretty fast. Shade is very important around here. Lol!

We also have tons of naturally growing Juniper, Ash, Hackberry, Cedar, Mesquite, Sycamore and others that I'm not very familiar with.

I hope you specifically bought FRUITING mulberries if you want fruit. Mulberries come male and female plants and only the females produce fruit. The male mulberries are generally sold in nurseries, because people don't want the mess from the fruit, but not in Tucson, they were banned here because of allergy problems from the male pollen. You don't need a male tree to have fruit from your female tree.

Yep, I think they are banned here as well.. Ours is a female & came up in the wrong spot in our yard.. :hit they are delicious.

I trust all you Tucson and Phoenix peeps survived the recent storms? It's all good for me in Cochise County. I'm supplying a local mom & pop grocery with eggs, so I'm moving as many as I did as a farmers market vendor, without standing around for four hours and dealing with customers (AKA weirdos). The "replacement" pullets are now going to just expand the flock from 20 to 35, as the older gals are still laying very well. They go broody easily and "deeply" (if that's a good term to use). So I made a second roost out of scrap materials. I know, lousy craftsmanship but the chickies don't care so I don't either. Cheers!
