Arizona Chickens

Thanks. Makes me feel better. Whenever you're new at something the tendency is to over worry. Me in a nut shell.
yup I know the feeling Dave, and I feed my chickens organic feed and my older hens I'm feeding what I bought( the pellets from Marcy from Modesto mills I believe.)

welcome to those of you new to BYC!:welcome

Good Morning all you chickens.

I give a lot of table scraps and leftovers, I got some baby cereal for free a while back and have been making that for them with different fruits, garlic, veggies, eggs, etc mixed in it. They free range but this yard is pretty bare. The way that I spoil them I'm sure they'll do that much better on a higher quality food. Glad to be switching finally to Non GMO.

Ill take 1 per acre so that will be 6.

Whoa, it's hot out there. Sweating at 5:30am just watering plants! Yuck. I usually love the heat and summer, but this morning was a little much. Now, I'm in an office where I'll have to put a sweater on in a few minutes. Jobs like this are comfortable, but not good for the body or soul. Also good for mortgage and groceries, so eh, more than tolerable tradeoffs.

I gave my bullied little grey hen to AZ Son. Peaceful on the chicken front now that nobody is getting chased and there are no shrieks and squabbles going on. Too peaceful!

Dang, that dude is annoying. This whole quote is total nonsense and does mean what he thinks it does:

"led me to wonder how I could transubstantiate a thing. How could the appearance of a thing remain the same while the reality changed? And so, I transubstantiated a fruit tree. Through the majority of the year it is a normal-looking fruit tree until spring when it blossoms in different tones [of] pink, white, and crimson, and late in summer it bears [more than] 40 different types of fruit."

Can we say...God complex? Ugh. Anyway, doubt the tree produces anywhere near the 40 fruit varieties, and why does a Google search ONLY reveal that one fake image of the tree? Not to say the tree isn't cool, if it's actually real.

Hi everyone! I hope everyone is doing as well as can be with this heat. Yuck! My flock is doing well so far. This heat is no fun, that's for sure.

I just heard on the news that a neighborhood in downtown Phoenix is being "overrun" with chickens. The city is recommending that the homeowners hire a pest control company to remove the chickens. I'm thinking, FREE CHICKENS. I'm sure you'd have to de-worm and de-parasite them, but that's easy enough. In my world, the homeowners would all build coops and get those chickens working for them! They also can be free food for the needy. Too bad they can't be caught and processed for food banks and the like. I'd like to go down there and see these wild chickens!

So my girls didnt want to go out in there run all day yesterday even with treats, so yesterday evening i walked them out with me and they explored a little and ran back inside the coop every time they heard a noise lol. So i thought to myself what can i do to get them to come out for longer then 2 minutes, then i remembered reading that chickens like grass so i went and pulled out a couple hand fulls of devil grass i have growing next to my garden i brought it into the run called my girls and dropped in on the ground and BAM they were all over it scratching threw it pecking it caring and running with pieces around the run and coop. Me and the girls stayed out in the run until it was almost dark and i told them to go to bed and they all ran into the coop for the night. Best day with my girls so far.
