Arizona Chickens

My grandmother never refrigeratored her eggs but then again, she didn't have a fridge. Later on my mom did the same but these were all eggs from our chickens and not store bought. I still don't wash my eggs but do keep the nest boxes clean and the eggs are all clean. I should say with the exception of first time pullets since they seem to lay wherever they want!

I eat breakfast for dinner a lot. I was allergic to eggs for 30 years and then one day it was gone. Deviled eggs are my favorite and I would eat them during holidays. Adam's apple would swell up and make it really hard to breath. Then I learned that if I wanted to cheat once a year or so, to have Benadryl handy and it helped. Still uncomfortable to breath but my taste buds were stronger. Then one day I didn't swell up anymore or have any ill feelings. I don't know. Just grew out of it I guess.

That's funny. I thought I was the only one who raises chickens and is allergic to eggs. I can eat one about every other day. If its cooked in food, I'm usually ok, but by itself...only if I'm feeling brave and have benadryl on hand. I tried duck eggs.same thing. Several of my kids and grandkids also allergic. Oh well, we cook with them and I cook up a mess of eggs for family breakfast on sundays. Even cooking eggs will make my fingers itchy if I touch uncooked egg.

. I think we re going to have to break down
& buy a new trough.. The large size is like $160.00.. If we get a large one I'm gona need you to come back over, bring more of those pods & start filing...

Also, we will need a plastic or possibly metal covered with plastic.. Some type of a divider so the ducks can get in & swim around with the plants root system separated.. Any ideas??
I do have the cage with plastic covering that might work.. It is in 12x12 pieces..

That's exciting! Nothing like new seeds sprouting or new chicks to get you moving.
Here's a used stock tank.

Very sad. When you free range anything can happen to them.

Just thought it was funny when considering the nature of this site. Ha.

This is pretty cool. I want to move to this neighborhood. I love roosters crowing.

I wish they were in my neighborhood!

Have you tried quail eggs? Some people that are allergic to chicken eggs can eat quail eggs without a problems, but some cannot tolerate them either.

I'm only good for 1 bag. What's everyone use? Looks like I'll prob get the Big Sky Layer as my girls are approaching 17-18 weeks. I made a mistake with the last batch of feed I bought. I thought the tag said 18% but it said 14% when I looked a few days later.

. I've supplemented with other protein sources but they don't seem to be to be meaty/heavy enough. At what age does the breast plate stop being so pronounced?
Some layers always seem to have a pronounced breast plate. They tend to be lean laying machines, though some do get more muscle or fat than others.

What happened to our monsoons and cooler weather? It got up to 102 in the shade by the house today, probably hotter out by the poultry pens. Got two turkey pens cleaned and rearranged some turkeys so I can move the last of my poults, which are still in the garage, outside. Just that little bit of work exhausted me.
I worked in the yard all morning and still feel fried. Since its supposed to be even hotter tomorrow I'll probably turn on the misters for the birds. I only use them when it will get over 112,

Just a thought, have you tried eating eggs from chickens that are on a soy-free diet? I talked with someone in Sierra Vista a while back who could not eat eggs from chickens fed soy but was fine with soy-free eggs. I can't eat duck eggs, very allergic to those. Chicken and turkey egg, no problem.

I am trying to get some new trees planted and this heat is not helping one bit. Most of them will be for eventual shade for the chicken area.

I've had my thermostat set at 83 degrees and my bill still came in at $198.00. For some reason I knew it would be that, guessing within a few pennies, with some above-high temps, and I even have two bedrooms closed off and six ceiling fans. I don't like a cold house, being skinny as a rail with little meat on my bones, and the ceiling fans keep things very comfortable. Oh well, with 1,900 sq.ft. what can I expect. I'm not complaining, just an observation. This house is huge for a single person (except for me and all my toys), and I love my space. My prayer was to get a decent house after renting for 18 years, but along with that, afford to keep said house. Be carefull what you wish/pray for. Yeah, it would be nice to have a new Corvette, but...payments, insurance and any other drama included...consequences of what you desire. Sorry for overloading the board with all my phono pics. I was fascinated with these things since I was about five years old and was record player starved as a kid. Truly fascinating watching a needle tracking in a record groove. The same with reel-to-reel tape recorders and have a bunch of them, too. After six years I still feel like the Beverly Hill Billies after renting a cute little house for 18 years. All I need is that Cement Pond. Not to offend any non-worshipers, God is great, and greatly to be praised. The choir sung that a few weeks ago and rocked the Church House (Ricky Dilliard & the New Generation Chorale). Oh, I play organ, direct and have been teaching on the side for the last 46 years. --BB Bobby Basham Tucson, Arizona
To bad you could not have a water feature in your front yard, "with duck's". :lau

Thank you for the details.. We have a few neighbors that have nice fig trees & I would love to try that for some of the rentals that have no trees in their yard..
yes me too, that sounds like a great idea. I've had about four neighbors that allows me to plant things in their yard and I think that would be fun to add!:D
