Arizona Chickens

Guess what I got free tonight? Guess??!!! Huh, will post in the morning...
Glad one of my posts actually worked for someone. ALL of them? Whoa

Only If we had a big farm.. I do appreciate when you post up the free stuff.. Still looking for a old horse trough for the garden.. Can't wait to add the lotus to the pond.. The ducks love swimming to the bottom and swirling around.. So fun to watch.. The kids just love them, they are wanting us to get rid of the chickens..

Oh also our neighborhood get irrigation.. Just about 5 houses away we could take them for extra bug protein... We don't have that as a option on our block...

Hi, my name is Tanya. I live in North Central Phoenix (AZ).

In May 2014 we adopted 3 chicks from my daughter's kindergarten classroom that they had hatched from eggs. We had been wanting chickens, so we thought it would be perfect. We even built them a brand new coop that attaches to the outside wall of our home, which happens to be the outside wall to 2 bedrooms. We also fenced off about 1/4 of our backyard for a chicken run.

Well, turns out, ALL three chicks are ROOSTERS!! It happens to be illegal in Phoenix to have roosters. :( We love them, they are gorgeous, but they are VERY loud, especially when they all 3 crow AT THE SAME EXACT TIME! We were told that they are Aloha chickens, which happen to be a new breed made here in Arizona. To me, a novice, it looks like 2 are Alohas and 1 is a Rhode Island Red. One Aloha is quiet large, although smaller than the RIR, but the other is a little pipsqueak. The little one is the loudest though and very talkative. :(

Once we started to suspect they were roosters, we did go to Pratt's, the local feed store, and get 3 Plymouth Barred Rocks. They are all hens, thankfully.

So, I've been reading the forums, looking for advice on keeping chickens healthy here in AZ and, once I can, will be probably posting a thread in the Re-homing section. :(

My children, hens, husband, and I will be sad to see the roosters go. They have been hand raised, hand fed, and held everyday, so they are very friendly. They will even sit down next to you or on your lap if you sit down in their run for long enough.

Did you hear about a few people out at that lake, they got caught putting cement with rebar near where people cliff dive?

Did that problem get turned around ? There are so few places with water to enjoy

A friend came by & wanted to see the flock. She mentioned that her friend said something about people on face book talking about love bird disease or pigeon?? Can someone chime in?? We do not do face book.. Apparently her friend has a flock?? She was in a hurry.. I even tried to give her lotus pond plant seeds & water hyacinth for their pond.. That is how much of a hurry they were in.. Free plants, are you crazy!!!! :weee

I have an extra bag but would need it replaced as I didn't order this month knowing I would have enough till the next order. So, if you can replace it with the big sky grower after your shipment comes in I would be happy to let you borrow a bag.
Just PM me if you still need it.
Speaking of the feed from the co op...
Does anyone in the East Valley have any extra chick starter/grower from Big Sky?  I'm not going to make it to next Saturday.
