Arizona Chickens

So beautiful. Where are you again? I miss that about La. The rain and natural water ways. I could sit and watch for hours with my dogs.

Thanks! We're way out in the boonies, if you know where Cordes Lakes is, we're about 5 miles north of there on I-17 and then off in the wilds of Prescott National Forest. The only name it has is Dugas, it's land that my sweetie's great grandpa homesteaded. It really is beautiful.

I go hunting off of the Dugas Exit. Your creek has water year round?

The other day when it rained our hens wouldn't come in under the shelter and they got soaked to the bone. This morning they wouldn't go out into it at all. Weirdos.

Oh, so you know where it is!

We're about 7 miles in.
Yes, it has some water year round, but nothing like this! Our chickens usually love to go down there and scratch around. Ours don't like to get wet either, except for the Cuckoo Marans roo who stayed out there through the whole 2 inches of rain we got today. The others stayed in until a break in the rain and would run back in when it started again. Sillies.

My little shelter I put up for them (I'm moving) kind of broke down the last rain we had. They got soaked. Then instead of staying under the shade, they stayed out all day and got more drenched. Strange birds.

I need a month as well as it's like buying your meat for half a year at 1 time. I need a freezer too. There are some for free in CL sometimes but they're all far away from me, and you have to be FAST.

OK, let's try making a list here and see what route everyone wants to go, once the list has been comprised.

All of our decisions will be made later but I think I can speak for everyone when I say that the meat should be Organic GMO free. Also ideas for where/what (I.e. @a little chiken)we purchase and what it's fed, decided later as well.

Add your name to the list please if you are INTERESTED in splitting any of the following.

K9Dave - Pig, Cow
@moms3cuties- Cow
@a little chiken- Pig, Cow
@Billiam- Cow
@kpgoldstar- Pig, Cow
@City farm-Cow
@kevs-chickadeesPig, Cow
@BeckyhsinglscCow
@flowerPig, Cow

No luck for pox vaccine in stock. Arizona Feeds south of Ruthrauff is ordering it for me, said it should get here in a couple days. I have one rooster that has it around his eye, but eye is still open, hope the vaccine gets here before he is blinded.

I found it - sounds like a great plan for those of us who can't raise our own beef/pork. I'm just getting started with chickens and rabbits. I also need time to get a freezer. Sounds like we will have time given how long it takes to raise the animal to butcher weight.
