May I suggest miniature cattle for you beef/pork community adventure.
This pretty much says it all. There are 10 breeds of miniature versions of cattle developed over the years. One is the Jersey for milk, the right size for hobby farm and family needs. The Low-line Angus is very popular. They are also kept as pets they are so easy to handle. Once they were kept as teaching tools in the USA the dexter and Zebu have always been small, handled by people on foot.

Please, do some reading up on them. Here is a chart on meat expectations. With miniature beef cattle you can expect 10% more meat versus bone.

Web site: http://www.zebufarm.com/ I know little more about then, but that they are a very old breed of cattle, traditionally heralded and cared for by people on foot, rather then horses, SUV, and motor cycles.

Thanks Bonnie. I had actually considered a Dexter because of the size of plot in gonna be living on. A lot easier to house a little one. I didn't know they had other breeds. I'll have to look into it.

Miniture Longhorn, I think are the neatest looking and everyone is going to want the head and horns.

The Panda is ridiculously expensive, I think is one of the newest, most popular among fanciers, and rare

The Lowline Angus and the Miniature Hereford are presently in production ranches, being breed to spread the breed and for the table.

Need to consider the ease in handling, the fencing to keep them in, and their temperament.

Think about 2 cows/steers this size and getting them to go were you want. Where as a Miniature you could lead 2 at one time.

If you have the space a splitting a Jersey dairy cow would give you milk. quote from MotherEarth News:
A standard-size milk cow in peak production can give 6 to 10 gallons of milk per day. What do you do with that much milk? That’s the great thing about small-breed Jerseys. My cows give 1 to 1 1/2 gallons per milking. This level of production provides enough milk for drinking as well as for making some cheese and butter on a weekly basis, plus a little left over to give to a neighbor or friend. The quality of the milk is excellent, with butterfat content of about 4.9 percent. I store milk in gallon Mason jars. Each jar of milk will have about 3 inches of cream at the top.

I figure 1 dairy Min. Jersey gives the enough milk at 2 to 3 gal a week each 5 to 7 people. To pay for feed and buying sperm to keep her fresh. The calf sold if a heifer, kept and fattened if a Bullock. Win win.
