Arizona Chickens

Mycoplasma gallisepticum/synoviae it presents initially like the chicken has a cold:sneezing, coughing but then you start seeing puffy eyes, loss of color & the bird goes downhill pretty quick. From what I understand it can easily pass thru an entire flock quickly.

Is this fairly common and would you know if your birds have it?

Photo of this cutie.. Glad you have joined in..:frow

Here is "lucky" the Sizzle Roo... He spends some of his days outside with the others but has been spending a lot of time indoors. He is a sweetheart of a chicken. Hopefully he will stay that way.

You say you moved, are you still in Avra Valley?

let me know when and I will meet you. I go to TSC once a week. I know I am missing the meetings I lost track of when they are.

Yes, my old house (with a way too small lot) is in Marana, new place is about 10 miles west, in north Avra Valley.

The Tucson Poultry Club meetings are on the last Sunday of every month. Potluck at 1 PM; regular meeting at 2 PM.

Where are the meetings held?

I did some research and it appears that this is a fairly uncommon disease outside of commercial poultry industry, primarily the broiler birds. It affects turkeys far more than chickens. There is a vaccine available that combines antibodies against this disease and fowl pox at the same time.
