Arizona Chickens

Miguel (my youngest) loves the new NN EE eggs and wanted to keep them so i spent the am blowing out eggs. my cheeks hurt. can i now fill them with anything to keep them from breaking? i was thinking epoxy

I did some research and it appears that this is a fairly uncommon disease outside of commercial poultry industry, primarily the broiler birds. It affects turkeys far more than chickens. There is a vaccine available that combines antibodies against this disease and fowl pox at the same time.

It's been hitting several backyard breeders so far, far from big hatcheries. They aren't in the southwest but my concern is shipped eggs CAN carry it. I left a message for the vet I trust the most, she's located in the White Mountains, and am going to see if she has the capabilities to test my orps for this. My other birds are all from local breeders but the orp eggs came from out of state. I wasn't aware of this disease then so didn't dip, fortunately I have all my breeds seperated.

Here is "lucky" the Sizzle Roo... He spends some of his days outside with the others but has been spending a lot of time indoors. He is a sweetheart of a chicken. Hopefully he will stay that way.

So cute! I love how he sits on your shoulder like a pet parrot!

I was not aware of this either. I shipped eggs but they are already in the incubator. They are frim a NPIP farm. I know that is not necessarily protection but I am going to look into the vaccine.

Hi all, I'm still thinning out chickens, I have far too many so I have many for sale right now. They range in age from this year's hatch--4-5 months or so, last year's birds, 1 year plus, and some 2 year olds. I've got several of my original Ameraucana X Orloff hens, they are completely sweet mellow birds and lay blue eggs, 2 year old birds; several Rhode Island Red and Barred Rock; Black Copper Marans and Blue Copper Marans; I'll be selling a few of my Ameraucana pullets I hatched from Padilla's Peeps eggs this spring as well. I have a couple of Black Copper Marans pullets from this year that just started laying that are layer quality only. Best to PM me, call or email through my website (listed under my profile).
