Congratulations on your new Buck. I used to raise and show Rex rabbits. We had a ton of them. Ate a lot of rabbit! Good luck with him.

I thought you were talking deer ... I was so confused when your started talking about rabbits! I have two black Holland lop brothers. They are adorkable. Rick and Morty. I doubt I could bring myself to eat them, though! No judgements ... my best friend calls rabbits "nature's refrigerator." LOL. I really want a tort Holland lop!

I attempted white potatoes this spring (redskins). I bought some at the store, and kept them in a bag until they started to grow "eyes". Cut them up into chunks, with each chunk containing an eye, then planted them. They did well for about a month and a half or so, until somebody turned on the heater. I also think I planted them in full sun, MISTAKE! By June, they were all dying. I dug them up, and from each plant got about a handful of potatoes ranging in size from quail eggs to golf balls. Cut in half and fried, they were pretty tasty, and I think they would also be great in stews. Next year, will try again in partial shade.

When we lived in WA, we grew all our own produce. It's not the sun that did your potatoes in, it was the heat. My potato patch was in full sun, but when the August heat rolled in, that was when the plants would die back. You need a good 4 months to get decent sized potatoes. Our soil in Buckeye is so bad I can't grow anything, and I really miss gardening, both for the produce and the actual gardening and playing in the dirt!

Down here you need to garden in shade cloth raised beds and use compost to create your own soil.
