Arizona Chickens

After reading this, I checked their feeder (I hadn't checked it after this latest rain) and found wet, stinky feed in the bottom. So this is a possibility too. :(
I've cleaned it all up and I'm water proofing the feeder. I thought I was okay keeping it under cover, but obviously not from the sideways rain.
I'm also going to finish the closed watering system to make sure I don't have any exposed water for algae growth.

My 4 are a year old and have been raised with a pool their whole lives too. Don't tell me they will fall in the pool someday!

Chickens will and do fall into pools, either by accident or when they frolic. They drown instantly..
Some people put rocks in the water bowl, for just this reason..

No, jungle fowl are different.. They are banty's.. Very small..

Which and why do you like?

Well, we got them because the feed store had them when we needed day old chicks for our broody. And because they are smarter then your average chicken.. "Preditor proof" AND they are Banty, our rooster is a medium size guy. If we had a large rooster, we would have problems there..

Hi everyone!! :frow

I have been a member forEVAH but hadn't posted in, well, forEVAH   (thousands of pages ago...)

I've had numerous chickens of various breeds and had a lovely colorful egg basket for a few years.

Well now ... I am down to ... zero chickens :hit

I want to get back in the game, though, and start up my new flock. I will probably hit the feed stores like I did last time (ordering chicks is so 'spensive  ) ... UNLESS ...

:fl

Anybody got some chicks to sell? :D

or even ... dare I ask ... chicks and ducklings? :jumpy

I'm looking to buy in the next few weeks but figured I'd better get the word out now. I'm not really picky on breeds, in fact I'd prefer all different breeds, a hodgepodge of chickababes, variety is the spice of life and all ;)

Thanks in advance!! :)

Where are you located? We might have a extra drake.. Should know in a few weeks.. I could vent sex, but I don't want to scare him/ Her. Not that you would want a drake.. But he is on the endangered list.. Ancona..

Wet, stinky feed will get them sick for sure. Lots of molds and other stuff can grow in those conditions. Keeping the feed dry should prevent further issues, assuming that was the problem. FYI, pale faces and combs happen with many illnesses. It is not a symptom restricted to coccidiosis.

Ok feeds in central Tucson had about 10 or more breeds yesterday, the typical sex-links, leghorns, barred rock, RIRs, EEs, but also NJ Giants, Wynadottes, Orpingtons ... Maybe more. No Brahmas. No Silkies or frizzles. :-(

You might want to consider a hair breed like the Barbados - no shearing and they do great in the heat. If you do want a wooly sheep consider Arizona's own Navajo Churro. They're a smaller breed and do fine with the climate, they're also listed as critically endangered with a little over 500 registered.

I have eggs in the incubator now - English Orpingtons in Chocolate, Black, Blue, Splash and White, also Golden Marans. I have English Gold Laced Orpington eggs coming in tomorrow. Not sure what type you're looking for but I think @desertmarcy has quite a few available right now and she's got very nice birds plus you'll know whether they're pullets or cockerels. Mine, with my luck, will most likely be 98% cockerels
