If the due date is 4 days after, wait 2 more.. If nothing yet, go & get day old chicks from the feed store or someone, & put under her in the evening.. She might peck don't let that scare you, just stick them under her.. Do it around 9 pm, when it is a couple of house past dark.. Can't wait to hear what happens..

Thanks for the help. I'm gonna call near by places and see try to figure out when/where will be my best option for chicks 1 day old and hopefully a breed I want. I'm thinking positive, these are going to hatch so I won't need chicks. Hatch Hatch Hatch! That should do it.

Hi guys im having a issue with a few of my BR hens plucking my EE's back feathers what can i do to stop this problem? also my guineas are attacking my chickens what can I do about that aswell?

You might have to look on a chicken hatchery web side for "skirts" for your EE's or whatever they are called. It will protect them & help in the loss of their feathers.. Or let the free range more often.. Do you have chicken math?? They do need to be able to get away from a bully..
Yeah, I have heard that guineas can be mean to chickens.. They are not as domesticated, that is why they will eventually leave your property after a year or so..

I totally know how you feel!! I am so tired of having broody's. But our precious silkie Cheryl is really our/my favorite hen.. Ther is just no way we will ever get rid of her.. The others are going to a friend to start their own flock.. All though, one of the EE's turned out to be a rooster.. So he is going to the crockpot.. I plan on going to our friends possibly on Friday to help do their chickens & this rooster..
Any way, yes i agree with you.. Get what you want.. The pullet's are from hatchery stock, & we never planned on keeping them.. Now we have those new babies being raised by Cheryl.. Isbar, wheaten Ameraucana & German bielefelders. I think I want to add cream leg bars & Swedish flower.. & THAT IS IT!! The hens are chasing & attacking the ducks, so they are out front.. We have 2 Moma hen's & "Tiny" the other jungle fowl sitting on 3 French bresse blue or splash eggs.. So we will have MORE chicks in a few weeks.. So crazy this year.. What is it that you want? Egg color, size, or breed?

I think a few of my birds have a respiratory infection. they are coughing, sneezing and have nasal discharge. My neighbor redid the water way a few years ago (although I thought that was illegal) he moved the wash and now it comes right through my yard. my property is on an angle with my coops at the top but this year they flooded bad, several times. someone suggested maybe the floods brought bad stuff and deposited it in my coop area. I have decided to clean them all (again) add lime and then add sand about 6-12 inches to each coop. I am hoping this will help. I have all those coops on oxytetracycline and it seems to be helping the sneezing slow down. (they have only been on it 24 hrs). I am really hoping this solves any issues I am having.


I have 2 pips and peeps eggs in the hatcher. having some issues keeping the humidity in the right area. Pray they both hatch.

Depending on their age, plus adding more, you will have 2 flocks.. Some breeds like bresse & leghorn lay everyday then stop. While others lay 3-4 eggs a week, molt then lay again.. Just depends on what you want them for.. If eggs, then meat, BO are dual purpose.. after a certain age not sure if I would eat them.. To tuff.. Do ya all agree??? If so what age is to old???

Less than 2 years old. I already know they won't be as soft as store bought. Thats because store bought have no chance to actually use their muscles. My boss' family used to raise chickens for the store in Mexico. He said, for their personal use, they would dose the birds with a little tequila to relax them before slaughter. It kept the muscles from contracting too much.

If they are tough, then a slow roast in the oven will do the trick.

I hadn't really thought about it a whole lot. I like the Delaware but it is a little too friendly of a breed. I'm always stepping on them and stuff. I kind of thought about doing a rare breed, learning about it and maybe doing 1 or 2 breeds only. I have a little Production Red (I think) that I really enjoy. Not a barnyard pest but pretty tame. Not a fan of my EE or Brahma? They're just not easy enough to deal with, for my taste. Of course it could all be just this bird and not typical of the breed. I can get the general feel for a breeds traits though. Still on the lookout. Still feel bad for how bad my employers hens look with no feathers. I've let the Speckled Sussex take on the top dog role and he is awesome. Protects the flock from another rooster that keeps escaping and when he mounts he doesn't remove any feathers so that's good. Also need/want to get some Ducks. For herding and bugs and I hear they have great personalities. What's the word on Ducks, anyone have any little ones or soon?

Once I get these two dumb standard poodles trained not to attack my chickens I will be putting them out to free range more. My youngest neice caused chicken math I bought six silkies because she wanted them lol. Im about to make freezer guineas out of them if they dont stop pulling my chickens feathers out.
