I'm way to excited...

Okay momma told me it was time for the little ones to learn about their bigger world. They are three weeks old now. She took them all over the pasture, the run and the coop! Plus they had a little lesson on scratching up those bugs! The littles are full of p&v - I'm thinking I have one roo and one pullet. The one I think is a roo has a black mark on one wing- much like grease on my DH hands - so we call him Greasy. It'll still be Greasy should he really be a she!! So its time to change to a different feed - I don't need the littles getting into the layer! My girls don't like pellets and I'm only finding pellets for flock feed. They also don't like fermented feed. I could use a starter/grower for them. I was wondering about a meat bird feed. Higher protein would be good for the molt but I do have girls who are a year or less but laying. I'll put the oyster shell up a little higher - but its available to them all the time. Thoughts from the experts?

I thought I would update you all on the adventures of the giant tortoise. I put an ad on craigslist for a found tortise. After a week someone finally responded. I asked him for a picture or description of unique markings. The guy was easily able to describe an odd set of plates on its back. So the tortise was reunited with its owner. In appreciation of us going out of our way to care for it, he brought us two of his children that hatched this spring.

They are tiny, maybe 1.5" across. It is hard to believe they will grow to the size of Daddy.
