Arizona Chickens

I went to my old house early yesterday to feed the chickens, picked up 3 eggs, but left them there while I went shopping. Stopped by later, but couldn't get to my house because they were evacuating the area for a broken gas line. Went over again this morning, picked up 11 more and left them there while I went to the poultry show. Stopped again after the show and picked up 9 more! 24 eggs for 2 days, so I'm averaging 12 a day. I'll be in trouble when the rest of the ladies start laying!

There is a coop Fourm on here.. Our coop's are basic. Prefab, except a long tractor I planned on using in the backyard. But, we have a dog that like to eat chciken for breakfast, lunch & dinner. We built a stucko wall with a ugly gate, in my opion.. We really want a different one, on that list of things to do.. So they live on the whole side of our property. It really is a long run.. We used a book case for extra nesting box's. Nothing exciting.. They poop on everything, so I put palm fronds on top of some of the stuff then just toss out when "dirty'ed" up.. Their dust bathing area is a wood contained old fruit stand free from sprouts grocery store. On the top where the fruit went has long wood dividers. Perfect for a lettuce patch. I ran out of fencing to enclose the top. Now we have enough to finish, on that list. It is 4 feet high, by 3 feet across and about 4-5 feet long. The wood on the out side is a pretty stained, burnt color.. When they do their dust baths it is somewhat contained underneath.
We host bonfires so you will have to pop on over for tea sometime. We were hoping to have our red brick front yard patio done this month, but our friends are running a but behind.. So will post up when we do another one..

Your chicken yard sounds eclectic and fun! I have seen a lot of very creative uses for houses & coops on BYC. I am not so imaginative so it helps to have access to this wonderful site. After going back and forth about whether to buy premade or ask my hubby to build, I finally decided to order from San Tan Valley Coops. They have great reviews and were very responsive to my questions. I figured that with everything my hubby has to do, it wouldn't be fair to ask him go build, though he was game. They will have it ready for pick up after next Friday! My chicks are growing so quickly. They are really fun to watch and hold. Finally named each one yesterday. We have Skittles, Sugar, Bertha and Beatrice.

I currently live in Yuma but hope to move to Chandler area at some point. Do any of you know what the rules are for having BYC in that city? Are some cities more receptive than others in and around Phoenix?

Well, it looks like I'll be at the Tucson poultry show potluck on Friday evening and I will probably be at the banquet on Saturday, but my cockerel won't be coming with me. I entered him just to have something in the show and to make my competitor's birds look really good. Picked him up to wash him this afternoon and discovered that his comb is a mess. I'm not sure if the big guy got in a fight or if he's got dry pox. Either way I'm not going to show him. No one else is worth entering in his place.

The up side: Now I don't have to worry about feeding him or picking him up on Sunday, which is good because I have to work over the weekend. :)

I wanted to go, but my car hasn't been behaving. :(

I think you bought my NN rooster. Red fella, a real marshmallow... that ringing any bells?

Anyway, first night done. My pizza rolls were a smash hit. And we sold our NN rooster to **someone**

So can you post your recipe for pizza rolls?

Let the "first egg" countdown begin again! I got me some new peeps! I have two gold laced wyandotte, two silver laced wyandotte and two black austrolorp!

I am still looking for an adult or chick buff polish in east mesa/phoenix and blue laced wyandottes. I would also like some sort of Maran, any but the standard color.... Chicken math in full effect over here.
My son got some carrots out of the garden today and we got 4 eggs!

5th pullet started laying today! 4 more in the flock and I'll have all nine laying for me!

is it this evening? Or next Friday

The Tucson poultry show is this weekend.  Tonight's potluck is primarily for the people who are cooping-in this evening.  The show itself is tomorrow (Sat Nov 22) and Sunday morning, at the Pima County Fairgrounds. Judging begins at 9 am on Saturday.  If you are coming, use the Brekke Road entrance (on the north side of the fairground).

We kinda had it on the radar.. However one of our dearest friends passed. We had the celebration of life last night.. Hope @Sill and I can come down and visit soon.. :weee
