Arizona Chickens

The chickens didn't even want to come out most of the day until it cleared up in the late afternoon. The nice thing about rain is all the bugs it forces out of the grass, perfect chicken food!

We were luck enough to have a nice, steady drizzle rather than the downpour that I hear hit Tucson. My chicks were nice and dry in their coop and were pretty darn entertaining to watch as it rained all around them. When they weren't trying to lunge at falling raindrops they were distracted by the gnats the rain kicked up.

Hi, everyone, it has been way to long. I am back in the valley after being gone with my fai,ly for thanksgiving. I do not know how long I will be able to hold this Wifi signal. I'm paying for it bit I do not get a signal 80% of of the time. I will lose it in the middle of reading and not get it back. I wonder if there is anything I can do to strengthen a wifi signal so I can use it when ever I want. Any suggestions?

I have been to Core about my shoulder, I am going to have to give up my girls for about a yr, I have to get my shoulder to heal first. Letting them in and out is tearing it up.

. I do not know what I am going to do with out them. I will be here longer then I planned do to it and other tests and stuff. So I will be enjoying them for now. Ethel begs for food, I think of other animas but not chickens. I cook outside most of the time, and she is right there at the pen wall, giving me the eye.

Sweetie, the Silkie is the usual comic. She has been the introduction to a lot of conversation. Sadly I do not think they will miss me and the moving around.

I hope everyone is doing well.

What type of work with the chickens is stressing your shoulder? Is it the bags of feed? If I lived up there, I'd help, but maybe someone can? I'd hate to see you lose them when you really need them.

what city are you in? I'm entering in Casa Grande right now for a job. Gotta love it when you have to travel sometimes

I currently buy the big sky organic feed but am looking at trying Modesto. I keep hearing positive results from people using it saying their layers are producing more consistently and their meat birds are finishing bigger. Along with less waste because its pellets and crumbles. The problem is they charge a flat rate for shipping a pallet no matter how full it is. So if anyone wants to try some of their products let me know and I can get you a product and price list. They have some other options such as 25lb bags on some stuff, food grade DE, and nesting box herbs just to name a few.

I am answering for LKD. She has been traveling around in a camper and lifts their portable home one and off a platform when she moves to a different site.

The problems with insects in the valley reminds me why I live North of the Rim.
The black soldier flies are not a problem, they are food, and we culture them on purpose to feed our chickens.

Thank you for setting me straight. I know someone in OK who raises feeder insects, I think that they are South American cockroaches. Humm we have trillions of roaches nesting in the ground. I do take advantage of them whenever I dig into one of their burrows. The chickens go crazy. But there is not need to make the habitat for those insects. I was thinking about the nasty ants down there. Of course there are ants here also but the cold season holds them at bay for a bit.

aviddamy I enjoy your avitar, es muy different !

mom-to-5 VERY NICE HEN HOUSE. LOVE THE INSIDE WALLS.
