Thanks, I didn't know they existed. Many of the reviews (of 2 different brands of the 75 watt) stated they did not last very long though. That doesn't give me a lot of confidence for the price. But I agree with you, I only use the 250 for an outside brooder, never inside.

The reviews were better for the zoo med ones than for the eco what ever it was. I might order a couple I probably have 4 of the 250s left and I think I did once find a 150 but never again and nothing smaller this past year.

I see these chick on Craiglist (Oliver Egger) 10$ for each, will it be safe to get chick from Craiglist?

Yes and no.  It depends on who you get them from.  You should be able to tell when you visit if the chicks and chickens are well cared for, etc.
Also, if you can't have roosters, you might want to get chicks that have been sexed so you have a much better chance of getting pullets.
My favorites are Black Australorps (for their heat hardiness and sweet personality) and Ideal's hybrid leghorn (for their heat hardiness and large frequent eggs)

yes we love the leghorns as we have two so far and we just hatched two of them and a hatchery Rhode Island Red so we feel very blessed.
for us leghorns are definitely good daily layers and seem to be very friendly and have good personalities and very inquisitive to boot.

I'm so excited!!! I just ordered an R-Com MX20 Fully Automatic incubator for my Xmas present! It looks like 2015 with be my first "egg hatching" year.

My Ancona ducklings are now out with the big girls and boys. I have to go out and make sure they figured out how to get back in the shed at dusk!

I have a small batch of barnyard mixes in the 'bator due on the 21st.

Is anyone getting chicken related items for Xmas? I got a gift certificate for Home Depot and am going to reinforce my coops.
