I will take a look at the site sometime and see if it's a place I want to order from. I don't know if they breed to American poultry standards or if they are just considered a hatchery?

Murray McMurray is a huge hatchery. No, they don't breed to APA standards. You can read a lot of reviews here http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/c/4869/
From such a huge company, you would expect a lot of negatives as well as positive reviews. This site has 87 positives to 40 negatives, plus 19 neutral reviews. That seems like a lot of negatives to me. My first poultry I purchased came from them, back in 2008. I didn't have any problems with the order. But I've heard from people who have had horrible problems with them and would never order from them again. So I guess you take your chances.

Yes, I am currently breeding the blue-black-splash color of Ameraucanas. There is no "i" in Ameraucana if it is the pure breed. I am not sure how long I'm going to keep them, their size is not meeting my expectation but the eggs are light blue. I have a male over my pullets that is unrelated to them. I may see how the offspring of this cross come out or I may decide to scrap the project. I am on the fence right now. I do want to keep some blue egg layers, of a breed that is in the SOP that I can show. I really like the buff color, but good buff Ameraucanas are rare as hen's teeth.

Since our new flock is about to lay I won't be looking for any new chicks soon.. Plus here is a photo of Clair with her new little stinkers.. But next chick's or egg's we would love a few Ameraucanas from you.. Oh wait I need to upload her and her babies photo..

Here is Claire with 3 isbar's and a WA, WA mix with cream legbar

* McMurray won't ship to Arizona until March because of the cold there. I don't blame them. I plan on ordering a bunch of Salmon Favorelles. They offer a good deal for so many pullets. I would go back and check the Shipping schedule. And look back through their website. I'm sure they misread your question or something. :-)

I've gotten all of my Cornish Xs from Ideal. They are the only hatchery I've found that will do smaller orders while still having VERY reasonable shipping costs. They are in Texas...which isn't TOO far away. My only issue is that they put in a ton of "packing peanuts," so my order of 10 will usually arrive as an order of 17-20 chicks.

Garden talk: in ground or raised beds? I've had great success with raised beds, horrible results with in-ground (dug down over 12", native soil replaced with amended garden soil). Plus, digging down the Tucson Mnt foothills soil is very difficult, even with a jackhammer (and I usually only have a pick axe and my strong back doing the work). How about y'all?

Re: Garden Talk:

how exciting with your raised beds! I use Kellogg's organic garden soil for in my ground gardens and trees and then I use Kellogg's organic patio soil for my pots. I'm told there locally based group and I like the bat guano in the mix. Fortunately I've had no problems growing things in the ground here even though I have quite a bit of clay in the soil. I'm always put out gypsum into the mix though. I grow things better in the ground then I do in pots as the pots tend to bake when it heats up at least thus far for me. Must be nice to live near the mountains, lucky you.

I went to a meeting for the garden pool here in Mesa Arizona and they turn their pool into a garden with the tilapia farm and they had fish in there that eats mosquitoes and they also had sweet potato vines and different things that grow in the water and I thought it was just lovely!. .they also use above ground/raised garden beds in the use coconut something to grow there vegetables in. I wish I could remember what it was called!
