Arizona Chickens

Love the progression photos! Did you cement the blocks together? One layer or two? What is the size of the run area? You have done a fantastic job.

Thanks, The blocks are just set in dirt. The run is 9x16 with the coop being 4x9. I plan to lay wire mesh around the outside perimeter before my birds get to move in. Hopefully will get the paint done do tonight and maybe have this project wrapped up by the end of the week.

I love looking at people's coop/run designs. Always looking for ideas. It is hard to tell for the photos, did you built it out of chain link or is that metal tubing?
Actually, neither. It's 8' long powder coated diamond mesh panels. Normally I prefer to design and build from scratch, but we needed to put something up quickly and are free-time deprived so I purchased the entire setup from ChickenCondos.com.

My hubby and I got the new coop and most of the new run assembled today...and both have the sunburns to prove it. It's even got a "skirt" of mesh all the way around to deter predator digging. It's a 4' x 6' coop with an attached 24' x 6' run. Next weekend we finish the roof...just in time for my pullets to move in.
That is awesom.. They will love it.. I am getting some root's on 3-4 of the fig cuttings from gallo, if you would like a tree let me know.. I am starting a new batch from a neighbor soon...

Just when all of my chickens are laying again, even the younger ones, I found out that they have worms. I didn't think worms would be an issue with clean conditions, but apparently they are fairly common no matter what. I'm worming with Valbazen, which treats roundworms and tapeworms (I think it's tapeworm, based on interneting), so no eggs for 24 days. Boo!!!!!!!

Hi!
I have a problem. I have a 12 ft by 12 ft cage with no hen house (just a little dog house like thing), with 11 hens and I have 4 more that are about ready to go outside with the older ones. I just got a $50 gift card to Home Depot, and I am debating between building a regular hen house, or should I extend my cage.
PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR OPINION!!!!!!:barnie

Extend, its cheaper

I have seen people use just about anything to provide shelter for the chickens. Seems they are not picky at all. I agree with extending. I like to provide as much room as possible for a happy/healthy flock. You can build your dream coop when the funds are available. I've seen people use large plastic totes that they cut a hole in. You might even be able to pick something up at goodwill. Just my two cents worth.
