Arizona Chickens

It's so good to see you getting back to raising birds Twinklin! It was nice reading your very thoughtful post about your experiences too. We'll be looking forward to meeting your new flock.
Thanks! There were some breeds I just had to have again but had to get different coloring than the ones I had before because I knew looking at another white Silkie or silver laced Polish would be really hard. Hopefully the EE I end up with doesn't look too much like Eleanor did.

We also concentrated more on egg color variety this time. We lost the newer girls right before they started laying so I had 3 brown that were very close in color and one cream. We are very insistent on finally getting that darn blue egg so not only did we order another EE we wanted to make doubly sure so we got the Ameraucana as well. We should get 2 blue (or one blue and whatever the EE lays), an olive, 2 cream (tinted), a medium brown, very dark brown, and 2 white. I was always jealous of people with really beautiful baskets where mine was just brown so I'm really excited.

@Twinklin you will have spoiled chicken's like before.. Coyote's can scale a 8 foot wall, dig and jump threw plant's to get dinner.. Heck, grey fox's can jump zero to 8 plus feet.. Not sure if you remember @Arizona Chickens story? If I remember correctly, She was out in the yard with her large dog.. But hallelujah her comes her trusty, handy, dandy rooster!! He saved his girlfriend's life.. Get yourself one of those?? I used to be out there on guard with a baseball bat.. Who has time for that!!
Can't wait to see photo's of your wonderful set up.. Plus remember a chicken's life is really only about 3-5 maybe a bit more in human year's... So once they are older you will be faced with this issue again, just not from a preditor.. Love them while you have them, & thank God for how He provides.. This situation will only make you a stronger girl !!:frow

Thanks <3 We're not planning on a rooster, though if we do end up with one due to sexing mistakes we decided we'd try a rooster collar before rehoming it. We live very close to our neighbors. Our houses here are only 20ft apart or so. Our neighbor on the side the chickens are on doesn't mind the hens clucking but she might change her tune with crowing. Scottsdale allows roosters but the same noise regulations pertain as they would a loud barking dog. The neighbors can complain and they'd make us get rid of it. If a no crow collar works we could potentially keep it but we wouldn't get the roosters vocal warning if there's a predator but he still might be able to protect the ladies in some way.

We have decided to part with Burt.

it is to much work to out him up every night. Plus the no crow collar is not working as well as i would like. He crow's even in his in closure at 5am.. summer is coming I could put him in a box in the laundry room, but there's no air conditioning. And that's not fair to him.

I live on five acres and his crowing will not be a problem so I can take him and the hen. I only want one roo
