Arizona Chickens

I meant to add, with venomous reptiles, you don't actually physically handle them. You use tools. Handling, with head restrained, needs to be done very carefully. Some species are very adept at twisting their head and biting. It only takes a little nick of a fang to envenomate you. It is said that the two biggest risk factors for snake bite are alcohol and testosterone

My new peeps came today. I think I have them all identified properly

Golden Laced Polish

Blue Silkie

These 2 look very similar. Both 5 toes, both feathered feet, both yellow, both appear to have muffs and beards.... I believe one to be a Salmon Faverolle and the other to be a white Sultan.
I'm thinking the top one is the Sultan because it's feet are more feathered and the bottom is the Fav because her cheeks are fatter.

Pretty sure this is the black copper marans. It has slightly feathered legs that are splotchy black

Silver Laced Cochin

This one looks just like my old EE Eleanor so I'm going to assume this is my EE, typical EE chipmunk

I think this is my Olive Egger. MPC uses 2 crosses Marans with Ameraucana and Marans with Legbar
This one looks just like the black copper marans but it's legs aren't black at all. It looks like it also has a chubbier face so I'm pretty sure it's a Marans/Ameraucana cross. Its legs also look to be slightly feathered.

And I think this last one is my Blue Ameraucana. I thought at first this would be my Olive Egger and that one of the black and white chicks was my Ameraucana and that I ended up not getting a true blue from the hatch but a black instead but after close examination I noticed both black and white chicks had some leg feathering so I'm pretty confident in my conclusions.

It took a bit of looking up chick pics, counting toes, checking for feathered legs, matching up beak and leg colors.... but I think I figured it all out LOL.

Well I think you're right! Great chicks, it will be fun watching them grow up.

Those of you that enjoy having your own food forest and like berries need to get one of these! I got a dwarf fruiting mulberry in a five gallon pot from someone off Craigslist. It's only about five feet tall and had a few fuzzy-ish fruits on it when I got a month ago. Well this little tree is laden with fruit now and they are starting to ripen. The branches are so heavy with fruit they are bending under the weight.

I think I need to remove most of the fruit so the tree can put more energy into getting established, but I'm enjoying eating them too much. The fruit are sweet if black or sweet and tart if picked black with just a hint of red. These fruit are not seedy like blackberries or raspberries. I'm not sure there are even any seeds in the fruit, or they may just be very tiny or soft.

So far the birds have not found the fruit, maybe there are too many other edibles in my yard. I can see I may need to cover it in the future if the birds eat too many. This tree is supposedly "everbearing" and will give fruit most of the spring and summer so we'll see how it does once the real heat hits.

I want a white mulberry and black mulberry so bad I can hardly stand it but can't find one anywhere

very cute chicks I was wondering though are you sure that one is not a gold laced Cochin instead of a silver laced
Thanks. I think it has to be Silver laced. I don't think MPC distributes golden laced cochins only SL, Mottled, blue, white, partridge, and black frizzle. I took another pic in better lighting though. She hasn't started any wing feathers yet. I did order a silver laced and they've been really good about sending me exactly what I ordered even when I listed hatch day substitutions I'd be willing to take. I have never had this many chicks at once before, and so many that looked similar to each other, so it was tricky for me to determine I got everything I ordered. My previous batches the chicks all looked very different, there was no mistaking who was who.

Right now I'm still getting the Faverolle and the Sultan mixed up. I'm hoping the sultan's little crest bump comes in quickly so I can start Identifying them easier. The polish already has her crest bump and I thought the Sultan would have the same sort of head bump from the get go. The Marans and the Olive Egger are hard to tell apart right now too, currently I am having to check the legs for the black spots to tell them apart.

Here's the little cochin.

Great photo of the chick. When I start selling chicks I will have to offer a mixed group of chicks it sounds fun to get so many different ones at once. You will have a very pretty barnyard for sure

Well sold my first batch of pure breed dark Cornish that will hatch next week, or at least have a reservation and deposit on them. Hope all goes well with the hatch. I am hoping to get Cornish, Cornish X, Isbar and Ayam Cemani chicks from this next hatch. The hatch after that is for Black Copper and some more Cemani. My last hatch until my RI gets the hang of breeding his girls will be Blue Copper. Will be in full swing for selling chicks and eggs later this year and for sure early spring next year. LOL my husband went to visit his mom but I could not go with him. With two bators cooking I did not dare leave the house for three days. Not after having one of them break a spindle and dump everything upside down.

Right now we have 13 chicks from the first hatch getting well feathered and the 31 from hatch number two are doing well. Had to cull two of them after 3 days when they were not able to stand up. They were from shipped eggs don't know if that is common with shipped eggs or not. Will post photos of the babies later today.

Oooooo....mulberries are my favorite! I have fond memories of gorging myself on fresh-picked mulberries back in Ohio as a child. I'm so jealous of you!!!
