Arizona Chickens

@lacymorgan - I think the bait and switch internet fraud comments were in response to someone else's post - the person who received a box of random hatching eggs instead of the (expensive) ayam cemani eggs they had purchased. It's not yet clear if that was a bait and switch by the seller or if it was a genuine mistake. Time will tell.

I agree with desertmarcy that photos of chickens on your site should be photos of your own birds. On the other hand, I see no reason why a cute icon or button on the site should have to be your bird, if it is clearly a symbolic icon or button and not a representation of the birds you are selling. If I had any cute icon/button type photos I'd send them to you. Unfortunately I am a klutz with a camera. Good luck with your website. Hope we all get to see it when it is ready!

@cyborg - Gotta wonder why/how the fraudsters picked your friend's house to "rent" out. Is it a personal vendetta against your friend? Or a convenient house for some other reason? Life is sure weird!

HEAR YE, HEAR YE!
I was doing an internet search last night for ayam cemani hatching eggs, and ran across one ad (I think it was on eBay), that described a perfect ayam cemani chicken, and they were selling the eggs for $24.99 ea, plus shipping. Then, there was another box down below that, that said eggs from chickens with those attributes were no longer available, but they had other eggs, with no description of what was being offered at all. Basically, send us a pocketful of cash, and we will send you something.

On another note, a friend of mine owns a house in Phoenix. Recently, he was working out in the yard, and a couple walked up and asked him who he was. He told them his name, and they were acting like he was a gardener or something, and he told them he owned the house. Apparently, someone was offering to rent his house on Craigslist. The ad gave the address, but said the owners were out of the country. Just send them the rent and deposit, (to a P.O. Box), and they would mail the keys. Luckily, this couple wanted to look at the house first, and hadn't sent any money. 3 other people have contacted him, and said they rented the house, and want the keys, or their money back.

Funny enough I am the one that got the wrong eggs and ended up with a dozen grab bag birds. The seller is supposed to send the correct eggs this tuesday. If they do not or the are the wrong eggs again charges will be filed on them. I will both keep you posted on my website and the eggs as things come along.

We did the first candling on the Silver Grey Dorking and Ameracauna eggs last night. As suspected, the majority of the Ameracauna eggs were no good, but two of the fourteen are definitely developing and two are "possibly" developing. Only one of the Dorking eggs failed to develop with the remaining eleven looking fantastic! I'm so relieved! I was so worried that having to interrupt incubation to clean the incubator after finding that toxic egg would kill the hatch, but it's still going strong.

@houdiniduck - You're silkies are adorable! I'm finally getting eggs from my lone Silkie girl. They're so darn tiny and cute!

Good morning everyone. Been a long time since I have been on. Started a new job and adopted a beautiful baby boy so not a lot of extra time in the day. However I have noticed my RIR feathers are looking very ratty and not sure if something is wrong with her. Any help or advice would be great.

I do want to mention that I did check for mites and fleas and her vent is clean as can be. The picture is of her wing feathers and her tail feathers look the same. Normally her feathers are beautiful and she went through a soft molt I think back in October. She doesn't appear to be losing any feathers currently and is still laying. Just want to make sure I am not missing anything.

Hi everyone! :)

I'm pretty sure I've identified 2 cockerels in my batch of Welsummers ... Anybody interested? They are free for anyone who wants them ... Otherwise, I dunno, DH keeps talking about chicken n waffles :hmm

I'm in mesa and will deliver pretty much anywhere in the Valley.

Here's a pic of one of the handsome fellows:

Might just be extreme feather wear, but I would suspect feather lice. Check her carefully at night about half an hour after sunset. Look for mites (tiny, may not be visible to the naked eye) and lice (not much larger). Look for grey or whitish nits (louse egg masses) at the base of the feathers, especially below the vent and on the belly near the legs. Some mite infestations leave the belly feathers feeling coarse and dirty, and are easier to detect by that feel than by finding the bugs themselves. If you find evidence of infestation take action right away. Those critters multiply quickly. Good luck!
