wow thats one big bad  lizard, golly  a Gila monster is one of only two species of venomous lizards (its cousin, the Mexican beaded lizard, is the other). It can bite quickly and hold on tenaciously. Rather than injecting venom through hollow fangs like venomous snakes do,  When they bite, their powerful jaws chew the venom in , Gila monster venom is about as toxic as that of a western diamondback rattlesnake. They have been observed in the wild eating meals up to one third of their body weight.  Gilas have  the ability to eat large meals, combined with their large capacity to store fat, make frequent searching for food unnecessary. Therefore, they are rarely seen above ground. Gilas may consume their entire yearly energy budget in three or four large meals. Most of their above-ground activity occurs in three months in the spring.  when mating occurs, & when their main source of food (vertebrate nests) is most abundant.  Gila monsters have a home range of about one square mile (1.6 km2). but gosh  will they also eat chickens...?

I know when I lived out at Three Points, I frequently saw them eating the eggs out of quail nests. i would think they could easily take some chicks.

Hi,
Yesterday I got 8 chicks (4 black copper Marans, 2 splash marans, and 1 black ameraucana), last night they all looked fine so I just put the heat lamp on them, and let them be. But then I went to go check on them this morning, and one of the black copper marans was laying down on its side with a wing, and a leg in the air. But it was still chirping. So, I took it in and gave it some sugar water. What else should I do?

Well we apparently have a house chicken!! We leave the door open when our old mostly blind pug goes outside potty. The pug is not out long BUT we have this cheeky chicken who is more than curious. She has decided she should be a house chicken! More than funny is we didn't know she was inside until Glenn found her in my bed sitting in my pillow nest. He went to get me and this is what I found. Our new house chicken primping! BTW her name is Queenie. LOL!!

Does anyone (offhand) know of a company or individual that rents chicken pluckers? Ive got 40 birds that will need to be done in about 3 weeks. Im half way between Phoenix and Tucson so either direction works for me.

i would go with honey water instead of sugar, it has more nutrients then sugar, then maybe tiny bits at a time of warm soft boiled egg yoke, if its hungry..? then keep it warm and in a soft nest made out of an old clean towel, to keep it from struggling and wasting my away its energy. it will fee safer in its warm nest and get more rest, keep the heat on , the sick ones need more heat for a longer time , then go with your incite what you are feeling the chick needs and go from there. , look up on line what else to do after that, thats what i would start with, i wish you much good luck
