Arizona Chickens

@MrsFitzDarcy i had to check what breed the silver chick was, hopefully a hen. .
Silver laced Wyandottes & blue copper marans mix.. i will post a photo of her later.
I am 80% it is a pullet. The cockerels that come out of that mix mature very fast, getting a cherry red comb quite early.

That sound like great news.. I don't remember them, we're they in with the others? I do hope to see some feathering from the SLW..Oh & one of the chick's had a red leg band, I thought we got all of them.. What was the red band for again?

Well I got home from my relaxing evening to find piggy and lacey the gold and silver laced wyandotte sisters in a pile in the run. Benadryl, pedialyte and b vitamins on board... their legs don't work right and they had clear slime coming from their mouths.... they seem to be doing a little better and are in chicken hospital for now... sitting on their legs, but feet are all curled up. Any ideas? I don't know why the photo option isn't showing up on my phone at the moment.

:hugs keep us posted, I think it is vitamins as a memeber mentioned..

, it was such a pleasure meeting you and your husband. I am excited about my mosquito fish and I hope you enjoy those chicks. That white showgirl has been one of my favorites since it hatched. Those little Modern games are the cutest chickens ever! I would love to grab lunch with you if you get back to Tucson and will stop and say hi the next time I'm in Phoenix.
Yes, pop on in for a cup of tea when you are this way.. It would be nice to do lunch there at @MaddBaggins new place.. Hopefully this showgirl, is a girl.. DH, idea to get her.. She is the only white chick out of the bunch.. She stands out.. The new born berchin moden game, is not eating or drinking. We did notice that it had some yolk on it's belly, which is not a good sign, plus it is standing on it's hock's... & not upright as much a her sinling. We thought it might not make it, but it is pulling along.. I did see her standing up on her own for a bit.. I keep helping her drink.. Of course I will be in checking on them like 100x today.. :love we are praying that she will make it ..

That one little Birchen was just hatched so give it some time. You are probably seeing yolk from just being hatched. If it doesn't make it you will get the next one that hatches. But it does take them a day or two to learn to walk on those stilts they have for legs.

The red bands were supposed to have this ingenious coding system. I had two batches of Faverolles. One I hatched out from shipped eggs that were supposed to be show/breeder quality. Your cockerel is definitely from that batch. I also got a batch from McMurray (9 girls, 2 boys). So I planned on assigning even numbers to one batch, odds to the other. Suspected girls werer supposed to be on one leg, and boys on the other. I think ...

  1. Evens: My hatched eggs from eBay.
  2. Odds: McMurray
  3. Left: girls
  4. Right: Boys

I'm not even sure about the orange bands anymore!

so far my broody has hatched two eggs and another has pipped today. one is another pure silkie with the same exact coloration of the one hatched a couple weeks ago although this one has a vaulted skull(the older one does not) the other chick that hatched today is approximately 75% silkie 12.5% ameraucana 12.5% other, its father was my pure black silkie rooster who is a bit hefty for a silkie and its mother is half silkie half easter egger (black skin, blue earlobes, slight crest, bearded, slate legs, 4 toes), it has very dark feet and legs the weird thing is it has five toes on one foot and four on the other

Here are some photo's of the new brat's

The babies fell asleep quick.. they all snuggled up together to keep warm.. no light yet, it would get in the way for the photo's. The teens started in on their dust baths right away. .

So precious! I love how you just "had to go pick up more chickens in Tucson"! My dh is not as enabling as yours, he always has to ask me if I added any more chickens. I always answer "of course not" but I have my fingers crossed behind my back and the broodys that go hiding and come back with a bunch of chicks don't count either ;-)

That's signs of heat stress. Their bodies need to be cooled down. I immerse their bodies, up to the neck, in cool water. Give NutriDrench, keep them in a cool, quiet room with access to cool water and feed but no hot feeds (corn, et al). I also give them watermelon and scrambled eggs.

Very helpful info! !
Interesting chicken trivia, which I'm sure won't surprise anyone here:
Add up all the earth's cats, dogs, pigs, and cows and there would still be more chickens. Toss in every rat on earth and the chicken still dominates. More than 20 billion chickens live on our planet at any given moment, 3 for every human being. The nearest avian competitor is the red-billed quelea, a little African finch numbering a mere 2 billion or so.

I'm sure most of you have read this article. Your trivia reminded me of this;

With the bird flu (avian) taking out so many chicken's, I have no regrets getting our new ones yesterday.. Most of our current flock is immunine to fowl pox, fowl pox that ran threw our state of Arizona last summer.. Those mosquito's were nasty last year... A dear friend ended up with west Nile from a sting, then it went I to something else.. They were in the hospital for a week plus.. Don't forget that Vector control will give anyone free mosquito fish.. We keep them in glass containers on our patio.. Now to get more of my neighbors to do the same..
... what's mosquito fish. ..I don't seem to recall?

Mosquito fish are ment to be put into any standing water or ponds and such. They eat mosquito larvae. They won't prevent mosquitoes coming to the yard, but are a breeding control if you have mosquitoes breeding in standing water.

Sounds like a good plan.. They are doing great.. They have been out front with the duck's.. They don't have any symptoms so we might let them in the large area with our flock.. We have a tractor they can stay in for a few day's before they can play with the big girl's.. The coloring on the one roster is definitely different.. So, of course we might try to keep him.. However our SWA has been really quiet with the no crow collar..

It is the best to have a broody mom, we have new chick's, which I said I was not going to raise anymore babies!!! But my DH saw @AZChiknGoddess. Her modern game, he was like, " we got have one of those" & her silkies look like our Cheryl, she is one of our favorite girl's,.. So , of course we now have a showgirl, N.N. silkie.. I hope to get photo later today...

Hi everyone I have been MIA for a while they found a lump on my left breast and I have to go in 17 days and counting for a mamo and sonagram to see if I need a biopsy then set a time for the biopsy. I am plenty scared right now to say the least. For now I am still working with my chickens and just recently got some Lavender Orphingtons and cream crested Legbars from the Jill Reese line. In the bator I have Lavender Marans French variety and Icebars do to hatch this week. The Marans are next week. Then I will set some Tolbunts next week.

Sorry to hear that. Chances are it's just a benign cyst but best to get it checked out. Try not to fret too much over it right now, I know that is easy to say. I always fret over stuff.
