I have a pen of "teenagers" and one of them has finally started to lay - on the ground, in the corner of the coop, under one of the main roost areas (yuck). Far as I can tell she has never set foot inside the nest box. Yesterday I moved the nest box into the corner where she has been laying her eggs. Today she carefully laid her egg in the other corner. Little stinker.

Probably going to have to move her in with her mother so she can learn what that box is for. Yes, there is a fake egg in her nest box. She is not getting the hint.

Our BA has been giving us eggs for over 2 years. When she first started, we would find them all over. She finally got the hang of it after being closed into the coop for a few days. Suddenly, we are playing hide and seek again. Sometimes in the nest box, sometimes just outside of it. The other day I found one in the middle of the lawn. The best is when she lays it in the far corner of the chicken tractor and I have to get a rake to get it out. I'm telling you, our animals have a sense of humor!.

Hey AZ folks...thinking of restating a flock (had to give mine up due to divorce & a major move). Now I live in Bullhead City (hotter than hell) and was curious which breeds do the best in high heat??? Thanks for any opinions shared!

For me, it's my NN Turkens in first place, then my Australorps, with my Barred Rocks and Dorkings tying for third.
