Arizona Chickens

It is indeed a mess up here in Prescott also.

We must have had 7-8 inches where I live; the roads are snow covered and slick everywhere.

Plus they are calling for another 2-5 inches tonight. We'll see, but it has been a nice snowy February day!

Being in Mesa, we missed out on snow. Thank gooooodness! But I must say we had about 6 hours of straight hard hard drizzling to very heavy pouring rain. I think there was hail mixed in there somewhere last night. I had to bring one rooster in that his cage cover would not stay on. He's a brood cock in a single pen right now, dome wire type cage. And nothing would keep it on with that wind! So he stayed in the house last night. At one point I could not open the back door to the house the wind was so strong, and when it shifted suddenly I thought I would fall on my face. I haven't seen such wind since out monsoon storms last summer.

We had water up on the sidewalk, yard looked like it had been irrigated and chickies woke up a little cold and a tad soggy being that the rain seeped in under their tractors a bit from invading puddles. Otherwise, everyone is happy crowing and bawking on the yard this morning.

We had a bit of wind and 1/2 inch of rain over night. It is cold, breezy and sunny here now. I am glad my coop and run are under a big pine tree. Keeps them pretty dry. Half the run is covered and I used 4 tubes of caulking on the coop and nest box, so I dare any water to seep in!!

Well, it is beautiful today, albeit wet. This is exactly the kind of day it was about 6 weeks ago when the coyote came into the yard in the middle of the day and attacked, killing 2 of my hens. I am a little nervous about having them out today, but I refuse to live in fear.
Plus, they are starting to pick at each other when they are cooped up. One is really getting picked on. They have taken all the feathers off her back. I just gotta let them out to roam.

Enjoy this weather!!

Sorry to hear it. We're kind of snowed in where we are (higher elevation) but with the school closings, the family is happy just hanging out today.

It looks like a scene from an Alpine Chalet outside, and Thumb Butte is covered in snow!

I don't know if this is the right place for this, but it seems logical. I'm going to place an order with Ideal for Barnevelders. They have a $25 minimum order and I only want a few. Is anyone else in Phoenix getting ready to order chicks? We could share an order so I'm not getting a bunch of packing peanuts. I'm near downtown Scottsdale, and would be willing to meet you somewhere. I have to place my order by tomorrow if I'm going to get them. Thanks!

I would if I didn't already have a dozen eggs coming. If someone doesn't want to share your order, you might call Sanders Ranch Supply in Black Canyon City. She will order you exactly what you want. She puts a bunch of small orders together and then makes one order. That way you only get what you really want. Plus, you aren't getting birds that have been sitting in a feed store, you get them as soon as they arrive. Talk to Babbs. I have sent so many people there, I hope she is taking care of them all. She seems really nice. Hope that helps.
