Arizona Chickens

I'll pass on the word as a I know of a couple people interested in raising some Silkies or crossing their current flock with some Silkie blood...but they're in the Tucson area.

You said he likes to chase things, but what's his temperament like? Is the chasing just a matter of curiosity, or aggression?

He chases everything but if you don't run from him he won't do anything. I can walk right up to him and hold him and he doesn't try to hurt me. He does this weird thing where he side steps into you. I don't know how to describe it but I think it's a way of showing he's the boss. He will attack my dog though....and my dog gets scared and rolls over and he pecks at him. So we have to watch him when we take the dog out back.

LOL! Yep! I'm very familiar with that little side-step. I think all of my cockerels/roosters do that to some degree...even the super affectionate ones. Sometimes they even try to herd me like they do their girls....like THAT'S going to work. I wish I didn't have so many darn chickens myself or I'd take him in a heartbeat. I've got a huge soft spot for white Silkies, and I've only got buff ones. I spread the word though. You never know who might be wanting such a handsome fella.

WOW!!!!! Are you trees planted directly in the ground?

Thanks for the seed offer, but I think I'm getting some from @desertmarcy when I pick up my turkey from her. I definitely need some of these trees around my property. What an outstanding extra source of forage for the chickens! And us!

Yeah they are all in the ground. They don't do well in pots, it stunts their growth. Once you put them in the ground look out!

This is the same tree now. It's covered in flowers. I'll be cutting it down soon and will dry the leaves and powder them to use all winter. The tree will grow back from the trunk again.

Well...it finally happened. Two of my White Rocks found their way into my garden and consumed everything except my tomato plant. Granted, I was growing all those greens for the chickens, but come on! Save some for the rest of the flock!

I can't wait to get that darn greenhouse....though my hubby wants to wait until things settle down at our business. Um....no. Patience is not my virtue.
Time for some bird netting!

He really is handsome! It breaks my heart to have to sell him but he also acts like a dog. He chases after people, dogs, cats, neighbors, pigeons. He also scratches the back door and sleeps in a dog crate but if you hold him he's happy. I'm located in downtown Mesa area.

You can use a no crow collar. They work really well if you put them on correctly.

First egg today! Woot!

Well I managed to catch up on the posts finally. I've been home a few days but am not moving much yet from the Nov 4th operation. The adrenal glad was cancerous - so now its out - we'll see where it pops up again! The venal hernia repair is what has me walking around like I'm 110 years old and looking at 3 plus months to recoup with a binder and drains and 50 staples down my middle! My DH is a wonder this time as we made everything as easy as possible for him to take care of from his handicapped scooter. The chickens are thriving although one of my old girls(5+) passed on last night. I try to feed in the am - there's not much to that and I keep my fingers in the pot. DH keeps up the water and the cleaning (kinda) so the birds will do fine until I'm again back on my feet. What the future holds right now is up in the air as I need to convince the insurance company a PET scan is a good thing!! Stay warm and happy everyone.
