Arizona Chickens

My broody White Rock finally took to the nesting box (and fake egg) I made up for her in the isolation pen, so I placed 3 Biel eggs, 1 NN egg and 1 White Rock egg under her. She pecked at me at first, but once she realized I was GIVING her eggs, not taking them away, she calmed tremendously and went into her zone...pupils dilated, head low and body flattened out. So....21 days to wait and see what happens.

Awww....he's so cute! I wish I could...I really, really do, but I've already got at least a dozen more cockerels/roosters than I should. :/
lol same here cuteness factor turned 19 chicks into 54. 99 Cents for golden sexlinks muddied the water of common sense. Especially since I could see the dark vs the light colored ones. Feather picking reared it's ugly head yesterday in back brooder. Bet the RIR did it. He or she might be delicious. Julia Child's recipe is around here somewhere.

Lucky you to have a broody hen already! I have some Black Australorp pullets that are just starting to lay eggs, so it will be awhile before the eggs get big enough, or for any to go broody yet. I did order some fertile eggs for hatching in my incubator from another person who is also a member here (RattlesnakeRidgeWV). He has the black, blue, and splash Australorps. I plan on putting them in my incubator on Tuesday.

12/16 of City Farm's Moringa seeds sprouted for me. I'm going to give the other 4 more time to see if they pop open too. I potted them up today. Now to let them grow! I'm so excited!

Flock drama, now that Tempe Town lake is draining more birds of prey are coming into the neighborhood. I'm a little worried about the Ducks! Going to hang some bird netting above. .. But on a better note the Ducks are eating the flies like crazy. Which of course is great..

I heard a couple weeks or so back that they were going to be draining it over there. Anything that will help to keep flies and mosquitoes down is good.

Good luck with your hatch! I just hatched out 18 chicks in my incubator last weekend. The little buggers already have wing feathers and are trying to fly. The grow so fast!
