Arizona Chickens

I have Golden Cuckoo Marans under my broody right now. Obviously, it will be a while before they will be laying, but I will be needing to sell some of them when they get big enough to sex. They come from Melissa (in Texas). That is, if I get a good hatch rate.

I will keep you all posted.

There is a feed store in Phx that takes in chickens that need homes. It is The Feed Lot. You might call them and see what they have. They had an EE roo and two hens last time I was in there as well as some really beautiful bantams.

I wish I had room for some more chickens - I'd definitely buy some cuckoo marans chicks from you (would love to add some dark egg layers to our flock). Our 4 month old chickens haven't started laying yet, but we should have white, green, & brown eggs when they do. We have two barnevelders and I'd love it if they lay dark eggs, but from what I've heard, their eggs will probably not be that dark.

We currently have 11 pullets and will have to sell 2 or 3 to make room for some 2 month old black sexlink chicks that we are trying to integrate into the flock (loads of fun with our flock of chicken bullies). My coop & run are only big enough for 12 chickens at the max. The sexlinks are so much calmer and friendlier than our white leghorns & barnevelders that we are planning to trade a few out. The leghorns will come up to us treats, but if you try to pick them up - they're off. The sexlinks come right up to me and stand still for me to pick them up (probably because they think I'm their mama - I protect them from the others LOL)

The Feed Lot is where I found the two barnevlders as chicks. The Stock Shop & Pratt's Feed Store also occasionally have adult chickens for sale and The Stock Shop is where we got the rest of our chicks. I did see 3 RIR hens at The Stock Shop once, but usually they have roosters or baby chicks - I think hens or pullets are snatched up pretty quick.

Lots of people say that about sex links! We have a hen and a roo that are Amber sex-links (we think) and they are both just flighty, unfriendly birds. The hen is just nasty!

So are you needing a home for some chickens? Which ones?

Probably selling a couple leghorns & maybe my reddish barnevelder (not show quality) + a couple of the young sexlinks. The jury's still out though - my kids have strong ties to the chickens and are still deciding.

Mahonri, depending on what hatches under my broody, I may be able to help you replace a few of your Marans. Mine are also from Melissa. I only wanted a roo and 2 or 3 hens. I had planned to sell the rest. If you have extras of other breeds, maybe there is trading in our future.

ArizonaDesertChicks - I may be interested in a couple leghorns, maybe the barnevelder. W want a few more good egg layers. Keep me posted.

Well, I finished my coop, and picked up some laying hens (3 Cinnamon Queens) and 4 juvenile pullets (2 barred rocks, 2 black stars) on Saturday.

The queens are actually laying in the nest boxes.

Sniff.

It's a miracle.

I know I said that I am waiting until after our fair to get some more chickens, but my DS, Hot Wings Stable, talked me into getting a couple of phoenix pullets. For eggs of course.

I had one hen go broody for about 4 days, now I got another one who has been broody for about 3 days. I'm not ready for this. They need to wait until the end of April. Do you know how tempting it is to stick just a couple of eggs under them? So far, I have been strong.

Welsummers, eh?

They lay the dark brown eggs, right?

Do you have a spare laying hen?

Or would you be willing to sell me a dozen of their eggs this April?

They are great for dying red (I'm an Orthodox Christian, and we dye all Easter Eggs red, and the darker the egg, the richer the red color)

I'd still love to get a laying hen, or a young pullet.

Let me know.

Pester John.....I will keep you in mind when I raise up the first batch, I have all of the stuff for babies so we could work something out.

Right now I have some baby standard cochins, just a couple of them this hatch but everyone is laying so more to come in about 2 weeks, so if anyone is looking for Black or Buff cochins just PM me. I also have Khaki Campbell Ducks hatching too

If you ever have Welsummer chicks to sell (I don't have a bator), please let me know. I too would be VERY interested and pay a good price. I live over in Poquito Valley. I'm getting a new batch of chicks next week from Ideal and they were sold out of Welsummers for a while.

The way I do it is download my pics to my computer, then go to uploads on this page. It will then allow you to browse for whatever photos you want. Once your pictures are in uploads you can copy and paste into the forum.
