Arizona Chickens

Well, today is hatch day. One was born early yesterday but didn't make it. I hear chirping and saw a pale colored chick earlier today when I checked. I'm trying to not bother them constantly. It's a challenge. Haha. I'm hoping the first one dying was just a fluke. So far the new baby is fine and still making noise under her.

Sounds like an upper respiratory. Get to the feed store and get some antibiotics in their water.

Posted in emergency, but thought I'd post a picture. Thoughts?

Can't tell anything from the photo, if they were gasping for air it's because they can't breathe. So it's like a gag Flex. That means they're gasping for air. If they are foaming at the mouth that means their lungs are filled with fluid. However for 4 of them to die at one time. seems bizarre. If that is their crop that's under their neck. It's supposed to be full like that.

3 hatched. One didn't make it. One more is zipping. She's pecked the little barred rock way too hard for my liking so I'm watching her to make sure she's not a chick killer. I may end up having to brood them. I guess time will tell.

I truly love a good mother hen. I am constantly impressed by what an incredible job they do raising chicks. Here's my Mama Lily with her latest hatch - 2 pure Bielefelders, one NN/Biel, one White Rock/Ameraucana cross, and one pure NN.
