Arizona Chickens

Well, I surrendered. In one of my pens, I have various hens with no rooster, so just infertile eggs from that pen. But in that pen, I have a viciously broody splash ameraucana, that will not give up any eggs without a fight. So, I broke down today and gave her some fertile eggs from some of my other pens. The last time I let her sit some eggs, she gave up after about a week, so I'm curious if she will stay the distance this time.

Good luck! Hopefully she pulls through.

Good luck with that hen!!!;)

My black cooper marans hen had 8 eggs under her from the yard and managed to EAT them ALL!!! :ep :hit

My Pencil Palm hen had gone broody again! !! :ep

( I've been enjoying the novelty of her laying turkey eggs & eating them...Soooo I'm behind in processing her, you see!:D)

I WONDER .........

Should I let her help incubate some barnyard CHICKEN mix eggs of mine???
I don't know if this is even possible????:idunno

Dunno; the chicken eggs might get crushed under her. Never had a turkey though, so maybe?

I currently have one White Rock hen raising babies, and six other broody hens that are driving me to my wits end. I simply don't have the space to accommodate the wishes of all these broodies!

I've got a broody Australorp hen who I've been trying to break for a week. I let her out of the broody cage this am and she was still grumpy with the other hens when eating - so I'm on my way out to check the nest. Bet she'll be there - I guess I'll try another day or two in the cage. Dang she is hard to break. Last year was okay and the year before I let her raise little chicks. I don't have anyplace for her to be with chicks as I have littles in the baby/brooder pen!! I really don't have another place to put a broody pen.....otherwise I'd break down and let her raise chicks!!

Send a PM to @lpatelski, she has numbered beads made of a rubbery material that she sells for $15 per thousand with free shipping. 100 each of 0-9, each number is also a different color. They fit perfectly on 4" zip ties. I currently have 65 chicks aged 2 weeks to 6 weeks, tagged them all last weekend just to keep track. These are about the best "non-invasive" method of tagging I've found, and these particular beads are the best of many options. Most are cubic hard plastic beads, these are rounded soft beads.
