Arizona Chickens

@generaldsherman
makes a very good point. Unfortunately temperament can be passed on to offspring, so if he isn't human friendly, even if he's just starting down that path, you may find it very difficult to re-home him. That said, I wish you the best of luck. I understand all too well how hard it is to part with a beautiful rooster.
ditto @BackyardMarana

Do any of you in AZ do chicken therapy...as in taking them to hospitals, old folks homes, etc? I read up on it since I never got in to chickens for the eggs or meat. Just going to have 3 spoiled rotten chickens till they die. Seems like it's a doable thing after they are a year old. Anyway, just wondering if anyone has tried it or known someone that did.

Hi guys I have a Young blue favaucana rooster I am selling he is buetifull but he attacked me today and I have another rooster so I am keeping my other rooster .I really like this rooster but I don't want him to attack my little sister is she is to go to the coop .he is about 1 year and 5-7 months old .he is very active with his hens. He has hatched many chicks. I am asking $30 obo let me know if your interested thanks I will also trade for chicks, or other chickens please let me know if your interested thanks :)

hate to say it, but if he is attacking people others may not want him.

Yep they do that. Once those Spurs grow watch out.. Coq Au Vin take a while to make but delish..

My DH fell in love with the standard sized polish.  Before I go looking - how are they with the heat?

I know of a few people who keep Polish flocks and none have reported any heat problems. I have a rooster that's 1/2 polish and he does very well in the heat...but if you get a Polish rooster be prepared for that sucker to crow A LOT.

X2.. No crow collar.. Early..

Cock a dodl do, I don't have chickens right now but I rase fancy pigeons any other pigeon people on. Yee yee

Well, I surrendered. In one of my pens, I have various hens with no rooster, so just infertile eggs from that pen. But in that pen, I have a viciously broody splash ameraucana, that will not give up any eggs without a fight. So, I broke down today and gave her some fertile eggs from some of my other pens. The last time I let her sit some eggs, she gave up after about a week, so I'm curious if she will stay the distance this time.

???? Now I have multiple hens trying to sit these eggs. Caught 3 hens in the nest box today, none of them the original splash Ameraucana. If these eggs hatch, who will claim to be the mama? They are barred Rock eggs, no barred Rock in this pen. Will all the hens herd these chicks around?

My splash maran wants to go broody .
What am I going to do ??
I will have to many chicks..so now I have 52 6 weekers ,27 weekers ,and I now have 2 broody hens and about +60 eggs in the bator ..so 79 chicks total and the hens will maybe hatch another 20 and the bator let's say 50 (don't really now but usually I have good rates) so if everything goes good I will have 52+27+20+51=150

That's what happens when I don't keep track ..what can I do with most chicks?
Hopefully there will be a lot of pullets so I can pick my next breeders :)

We have a wire cage the go in.. I do 2 day's in time out.. No food or water. In the cool months.. If I find them back on the nest with the fake egg's or no egg, back in for 2 more day's..always work's. Now our girl's are 3 & 4 years old. We only have 3 chickens left..don't want anymore chicks..

@Sill we had 2 momma raising at the same time.. No problems.. The chick's that were hatched or placed by me stayed with it's momma..they acted as 2 flocks.. Even as they got older.. & all this talk about..OH "just stick a new hen in at night" hogwash.. They know who is new, they are just not as mean to her when you place them in at night. But each time I added a new hen the single hen stayed by herself.. And if we got rid of hens as they got older, their sister was a single flock hen, she never really integrated with any of the other girl's.. No one was mean to her, you could just tell they were loner hens.. Love our duck's and the farm fresh egg's daily..

My friend rescues wild bird's of sorts.. She keeps them until they can be rereleased.. She tells me they stories of them, great stories.. She can see a few flying when she gets close to home.. That's cool.. We have had to go to a pet store that has some & I think of how nice it would be to have some like our neighborhood had years back when he was still alive.. Our kids remember when they would do their flight patten around our home..even the grandson that lives in the house talks about it.. He the gentleman that passed had a about 35, I think maybe more.. When they passed by you would have to stop what you were doing outside & watch them.. You could hear they wings.. How many do you have & do your do the same?
