Hello, all!New to chicken-keeping and the forum overall, and currently located in the East Valley.
My family and I currently have 14 chickens, and when our feed store gets more chicks in in a few days, we're thinking of getting 4 more hens. We currently have 11 hens and accidentally ended up with 3 roosters.
So sad to see the video about the poisoned chickens - some people are just awful.
Excited to talk with/read posts by some fellow chicken owners located in my state!
I do have 2 questions, though. lol Firstly, with the storm that recently blew through, it sure brought in a load of mosquitoes in my area. One of my roosters has a little scab on his comb, could it be Fowl Pox? Has anyone else had a case of it from this last storm? He's about 4 months old - could this cause any issues for him? (Excuse the chicken in the back. lol)

And secondly, one of my roosters has a bit of a cut/tear? on his wattle. It's not all the way through, but it looks kinda nasty and is bleeding. Is Blu-Kote safe to use on him?

That's definitely NOT pox of any kind, but the result of some light sparring with the other roosters. I have no fewer than eight full-grown roosters and just as many "teenage" cockerels here right now and I'm very familiar with what you're seeing. Sometimes they even damage their combs trying to combat one another through chicken wire, hardware cloth, etc. It will heal just fine on its own without BluKote or any other treatments, but you can always use any antibacterial or antiseptic spray or ointment (or even Desitin, the diaper rash ointment) if you so choose.
