Arizona Chickens

You could try putting out something the roaches will hide under, and then turning that object over so the chickens can grab the roaches during the day. In my coop the cockroaches like to hide in the hole of the concrete block I've got the water fount sitting on. If I pick up the fount during the day the chickens come running, grabbing cockroaches out of their hidey-hole in the concrete block and squabbling over the six-legged treats.

Unfortunately There are lots of things in my backyard for them to hide under... or I figure they hide in the tortoise den.... deep underground.
that's why I can't find them during the day
Anyone want a sulcata tortoise?

A friend at work used to be an exterminator. He told me if they're coming through your drains into your house, put a little steel wool in the drain hole, make sure you can get it out when you use the sink. It tears up the roaches shell. I did, we don't have them in the house.

luckily, they are mostly in the backyard... thanks though, I'll keep that in mind...

I am sorry your asking if anyone wants your tortoise, how Big and where are you located? I'm sure you will find a good home for your baby.

Red is a sulcate tortoise I'm guessing he is about 50 lbs, 60-75 is full grown, he is approx 11years, yes he is huge.... He really needs about a 1/4 of an acre, but anything bigger then my yard would be nice for him. We love having him as an unusual pet, but to be fair to him, he needs a bigger space with grass growing.
Just to stop those who say I should have researched before I got him he was a rescue that was handed to me... "here, I can't keep him" When I got him home, and determined what kind of tortoise he was, I knew I was in trouble.... but ... it's hard to imagine a creature the size of a quarter getting as big as he is.. They live to 150 years... so I have plenty of time to find him the perfect home. We are in Tempe...

Yeah, the no last meal thing may be overkill (no pun intended). It does cut down on the amount of poop in their digestive tract, which tends to ooze out and get all over everything during their death throes if I haven't withheld food overnight. But it's not essential. It's just how I do it.

I try not to let them know what's happening either, until they're getting hung upside down in the tree. I do keep them in a holding pen overnight because they find that less suspicious and scary than me chasing them around the coop/run in the morning.

That knife is awesome. Similar shape to the one I use, but yours looks like a much better knife.
The photo came out stretched, it is not as long as it looks. It takes a good edge.
