Arizona Chickens

Yes we are just loving this weather! This season is so gorgeous in AZ, makes you want to spend the day outside. And they are selling pumpkins at frys now...we got several of the little pie pumpkins and the girls are devouring them, it's so much fun to watch! They pecked a little hole in one, then kept working on it, next thing I know we have pumpkin guts and seeds everywhere :p

Loving this weather too, especially early morning when you can still smell the coolness in the air.

Moving the littles outside tomorrow morning, hubs was off work a few days and beefed up the playpen and added a door.

Got a 3 day weekend coming and with this cool weather I can get some pavers laid :woot

There are 2 pie pumpkins waiting to be processed in my kitchen. Pumpkin cake is in my future :drool

I have been enjoying the weather here too, especially when it's about time for the sun to go down. That's the time I get out there to get rid of some of those weeds that are close to the fences and that, so that it will be ready for hubby to drag the yard again. Then he will lay down some of that pool salt over the septic tank, because that really helps to keep the weeds down for a long time.

Cooler weather also means that I will be able to take down the misters in the run, and the chickens won't have to have all of that mud on their feet. I guess that I need to get some of that feather fixer feed too, because it look's like some of mine are molting. The egg count is down now too.

Hubby loves pumpkin pie. I like the pumpkin cake, and pumpkin bread.

I am happy to hear your using salt instead of roundup. I stay away from chemicals myself. I love pumpkin and zucchini breads too. I grow them for making breads. It is almost chilly first thing in the morning now. Arizona in the fall is beautiful. It will time for me to start cutting firewood and preparing for winter before I know it..

I enjoy baking thing's in the oven, but in the hot summers here that get's put on hold. This year we got rid of our older stove and got a different one. This one has 2 ovens in it!

I've been looking at double ovens for the last several weeks. Usually one is convection and the second is regular. I also want to get a french-door refrigerator because I like how the storage is distributed. More easier to store a large casserole or a pot of chilli or whatever.

Let us know how you like that oven! --BB

We lucked out on getting this oven. Ours was getting pretty old, but was still working, but a friend of ours decided to buy a new one. They were going to trash their old one, but they didn't like the cost of the haul away. That double oven was still working good too, so Hubby said that we would take it off their hands for them! I have cooked many thing's on the stove's top, and have done up pizza's in the upper oven already.

Now I am hungry :D I absolutely love zucchini bread! So we have issues with our weeds over the septic...I've never heard of pool salt working, do you just sprinkle it over the land where the weeds are?

Yes, hubby puts it over the spots where the weeds are over the septic, and then waters it to help the salt soak into the ground where any of the roots would be at. If it rains, then that is less water that you have to use from the hose.
