Arizona Chickens

coffee grinds I don't want the birds to have, .
Say what!!!! No ESPRESSO for the girls:lau:drool

@Bobby Basham
Cactusrota and I are on the same page here. I was going to suggest caps to not feed rodents.

I've been looking at those pvc feeders for a while now, debating on whether I want to make some. If you get the caps you can easily cap them at night to keep from feeding the rodents or to ration access to your birds....

I have a place to put those in the chicken yard Bobby. They're on my list to get done while the weather is still cool. But I also let the birds free range in my yard all day.
My birds LOVE mustard greens and dill.

I'm gonna do these on a smaller scale due to space limitations. On another note, my avatar disappeared. I'm sure I always had one, but just noticed it today. Maybe it dropped off when they changed over to the new format. This is just me outside of church after some hard organ playing. My weapon of choice.

When I find biological experiments in the back of the fridge I put the vegetable remains into the compost pile, trying to keep the rotted food away from the chickens. I am rarely successful. The chickens manage to get into the compost pile anyway, no matter what I do. Then they scatter the stuff out of the wire enclosure so I wind up with very little actual compost. It keeps them entertained. And they find lots of grubs deep in the pile. (I do not turn it as often as I should.)

I can see your avatar.

Not to get mushy, but I love you AZ folks. When questions and concerns are raised, you folks jump right in. Everyone has excellent ideas that work for their particular situations, and it makes my design options more difficult...LOL. I wanna do it right the first time, with some minor tweaks.

I was around chickens growing up on a farm in the 50's and 60's as a kid and was always fascinated by them, but have not "officially" owned my own, so that's why I've done extensive reading and joining this board years ago.

It's about to become a reality since the run is done. I can throw the coop up in a day since all the plans (constantly modified) are done.

Please keep your ideas and input rolling in because it helps me and other newbies, because raising chickens out here, whether for meat, eggs, pets etc., is a different ballgame than those raised in the extreme Northeast, Northwest, Midwest, way down in Florida.

I know that chickens are chickens and are adaptable, but the least we can do, since they are now domesticated critters, is to accommodate them to our regions so that we can reap the benefits that they provide.

Oh Lawd, didn't mean to go that deep. I just want to express my gratitude for all the information from the AZ folks. --BB
