Arizona Chickens

Well not even thinking I ran out to protect my chickens. Dumb I know. It was right at the backdoor. It let go of the splash and got one of my EE hens. It got stuck trying to climb the 15 foot pallet wall. I pinned it down with a rake handle till my husband came and killed it. I feel bad, but my protective Instincts kicked in. It could have went so wrong!

You held the bobcat down with that? You were lucky that it didn't seriously hurt you!

Thanks for thinking of me for a replacement! My husband felt so bad I lost the splash he already said I can get chicks from you in the future! Thats pretty good considering he told me I had enough chickens!

Next time I do an Australorp hatch if there is a splash boy in there, he can be yours, ok? This might be soon, as my girls are starting back to laying better now.

Holy Crap! Talk about a heart checker! (yup! it works!) Big high five for taking care of the situation! Is your hubby into skinning? Because AZ bobcat pelts have been known to sell for $300+ each. You may have taken care of that one, but I would still suggest getting a Game Warden out there to advise you on whether there may be more, or other predators to worry about. Our neighbor was losing their cats to something one year, had a Warden come out, and he showed them the mountain lion tracks running right through their yard that they didn't even know about. We have a wash running between our properties that alot of wildlife uses as a highway. Scary stuff.
Welcome to the board!!!! :)

Thank you. I'll have to check into the game warden. Unfortunately my husband is NOT INTO skinning. I butchered chickens in August for the first time ever and he told me dont even look at him to help! Unfortunately I burned the bobcat with the 2 chickens it killed. I was afraid to butcher the the chicken since the bobcat killed them. I had no idea the pelts were worth money. I might have taken a stab at it! Oh well. Hopefully there won't be a next time.

Dang. We need pics of that cat!
I thought about posting a picture, but didn't know how it would be received. We moved from Ohio a few years ago and I would probably been read the riot act there! So here it is.
