Arizona Chickens

@Jadesun6 - WOW free pallets!! Another thing I saw was putting a PVC pipe - or something round that rolls when trying to get over it or stand on it. That way if a whatever predator climbs the pallets trying to go over will not be easy, if not impossible. We'd do it to our yard area if we found some scrap type stuff. Wouldn't matter the color - just the larger size I believe. I didn't think to google it for you - probably there! Welcome the AZ and BYC!
Thank you. I've seen the roller bars you are talking about for sale. I've never seen a dyi version. That's a great idea!

I kinda freaked out last night after thinking about they might be on the endangered list. I had to look it up real quick. It's definitely a different way of life out here, but we love it! Back in Northeast Ohio where we are from, they are fighting with 2 feet of snow, highs in the single digits and below wind chill factors! We love Arizona!

Not on the endangered list, but there is a season for them. I believe there is an exception for taking game without license if it is in defense of livestock.

Call to game and fish would clear that up. They are very friendly and helpful. Would be good to know as well, might even be a good idea to inform them as they can test for rabies etc. someone else in the area may have had a problem too. Don’t know until you let them know.

Ok Experts, my chickens are now about 9 weeks old. Time to play "DoI have any roosters?". I'll enclose the photos, you guess the sex! I'll let you know my opinons (that I currently hold) in a few days.

@Salty Skroob - here's my best guesses - they are some fine looking EEs/Americaunas
1- not sure - hen
2- hen
3 - roo - see saddle feathers
4-Rumpless! Anacona (sp) cross maybe - Roo
5- roo
6- hen
7-not sure - hen - rounded neck feathers
8 - not sure - hen
9 - Roo
Barred.......... hen, roo, roo, hen
And that's my story gonna stick to it!!

Good luck!

I just set 21 eggs for hatching: 4 pure Silver Grey Dorkings, and the remainder NNs from my white and black NN project.

I had to set some of my other eggs for 2 upcoming orders for my Australorps, plus I wanted some more of my NN/Australorps mixes too. It look's like I'll be busy for awhile with this hatching stuff yet! :D

So, with my overabundance of cockerels right now, and new chicks due to hatch next week, I'm trying to push myself to make some decisions on the unlucky ones to send to freezer camp...
This guy here is really pretty, but not really what I'm looking for. I'd feel bad about not offering him up for rehoming first. The red guy behind him is slated to go sooner as he's turning into a bully. I also have a small Bresse cockerel that would make a good boy for a layer flock, but not really meaty enough to breed for dual purpose.
I'd let either of them go for $10 each.
I'm located in Fort Thomas (by Safford) but we are going to Tucson for the Gem show tomorrow, and I may be heading to Phoenix/Glendale in another week.
